Cleaners ruined my bath Matt

I have my cleaners every week and over the past month or so I am getting a bit disillusioned with them. So much so that I am seeking a new one. Anyway, I came home today after they had been and I noticed white bleach spots on my charcoal bath Mat. The first of these appeared a while ago but I didn't say anything, but today there were noticeably a few more to the point where I am going to have to get a new one. AIBU to ask the cleaners to pay for a new one seeing as they were the Ones who spoiled it? I don't use bleach on the loo between visits so it's definitely not me who has marked the mat plus the shower is over the other side of the bathroom. Petty or principle?

I know that Dangly. I was expecting the cleaning company to cover the cost of the damage up to the excess just as car owners do when they have an accident which falls within their insurance excess. Still their fault, still their cost, money just comes out of their own pocket.

So the 'excess' quoted in the cleaning company's contract with me would be lower than the one agreed with their insurers.

Insurance is not there for the benefit of the home owner, it's for the benefit of the cleaning company. They are still at fault if they cause damage to the property of the home owner.

Wow more messages!! To cover a few points....they work for themselves so take all the money I pay for them, No fees etc. I wish the reason they didn't notice was because they were working hard but as I mentioned I am in the process of looking for a new cleaner as they are basically cutting corners and not even doing the basics.
Yes we are all human and all make errors etc but the point is they were dishonest about it and didn't tell me they had done it. If they would have coughed up to it the first time it happen I would have had a different attitude to it.
And yes, I will tell them and future cleaners that bleach is banned.

Sounds awful but I phased out my cleaners because she left a basin size ring of bleach on my landing carpet. She tried to colour it in (dark carpet) worth my daughters markers. Now landing carpet I felt was a good enough reason but a bath mat...I would just suck that up.

The cleaner is personally liable for damage whether the insurance covers it or not.

After we got into about £40-£50 a month damage on average with this and that with the last cleaner I let her go (shrunk sweaters, broken ornaments, damage to white goods, etc). It was just too much. She was careless and didn't seem to give a stuff. If you are in somebody else's home you need to take extra care with their things.
