Vegetarian or not!!

We've invited my family for Christmas but one is a vegetarian. Now I've got no problem with that (and will cater accordingly) BUT she's said she eats fish. How the hell does that work? She's a veggie for animal welfare not Heath beliefs so how can she justify a fish, but not say a turkey, being killed to eat.

AIBU to want to (but obviously won't)!say you'll get what you're given. Just don't get it - someone please enlighten me!!

And one more thing, with the "duh, fish isn;t meat, its not in the meat aisle" guff.....its not a bloody vegetable, is it?
It's flesh! It fits under a meat heading much more than it does a vegetarian one. It's got blood and guts and brains. It's meat!

Getting your knickers in a twist over nth. I will say 'vegetarian' to deal with things like airplane meals etc and be offered veggie food and I'm happy with that no cause for confusion and everyone is happy. In smaller groups etc I will explain that I don't eat meat but I eat fish. Simples. Everyone uses short cuts in everyday social situations to avoid lengthy discussions over everything. Again ... Simples :) and anyway your annoyance is hardly going to stop me saying what I want! In some countries we've been asked if we eat ham and we say no as it's meat.. No need to get upset rly.

Going back on a previous point made: v good point made abt diary industry! I'm not bothered abt the eggs I have to say I'm happy with free range but the diary industry is awful and bad for our health. Unfortunately in my background cheese is v important and cow milk is huge in my husband's culture (altho where he is from it is milk from cows completely free to roam and no hormones etc so not as bad as our diary industry).. But I do want to cut out milk completely in time!

Oh User, I give up, you're deliberately not getting what I'm trying to say. I'm not arguing that I'm right or wrong, just what is easiest in my experience.

And you're wrong too. Most people wouldn't say "oh gosh there's a vegetarian eating fish". Most people really don't give a second thought. Just tell them what you eat in the easiest way possible. I really couldn't give a toss if it bothers some random on a forum who is like a dog with a bone. Or a carrot, perhaps, in your case!

No, most would say "Oh god, another tosser pretending to be a vegetarian when they eat fish"

I don't care what you find easier. Vegetarians do not eat fish. If you do eat fish, and tell people you are a vegetarian, you are a liar and a people will laugh at you.

But you aren't doing that at all, thats the point. You are telling them what you eat and then eating something else.

honeyroar · 10/11/2016 19:43

User you're a little bit ridiculous. Well quite a lot ridiculous. Nobody laughs apart from the likes of you. And I'm not remotely bothered about that. But you really should calm down, Christ if this is all it takes to get you so wound up I wonder how you get through everyday life! But chummer on if it makes you happy. I've said all I wanted to.

user1478551766 · 10/11/2016 23:26

I'm calm, I'm not at all wound up. I'm just stating facts, and its obvious I'm on the right side of this.
One is truth and one is nonsense.
