AIBU to ask if anyone still supports this?

Which families is this targeted at?

Anyone who will be affected, is it even feasible to not be pushed into debt?

Thank you U2. I'm just tired of defending myself to people who blindly believe that their lives will always go exactly to plan and that their children and partners will never err from their very strict 'expectations' of how things will go.

Ayeok · 08/11/2016 17:54

Jess ignore the negative folk, they're attacking you because it makes them feel better, not because they're right. People like us need to speak up, because attitudes that are wrong and cruel need to be challenged! Don't let them get you down.

Ayeok · 08/11/2016 17:54

Easier said than done I know.

MangoMoon · 08/11/2016 18:03

Jess, they are safe in their bubbles of everything going to plan.
I sincerely hope every single poster's life does continue to go to plan, too - I wouldn't wish shit luck & circumstance on anyone.

Unfortunately, for many, they cannot comprehend what it's like on the other side.
(A bit like the short-sighted people who cannot look past someone else's decorating choices when viewing a potential house to buy).

Chin up! They're not the majority, just a particularly vocal and unimaginative, unempathetic minority.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/11/2016 18:04

I hope I've been clear when I've said that the state shouldn't be enabling parents in the first 'category' (although illiterate is a bit of a red herring) and equally clear that the state should support families with children in the second. Haven't I?
Asperger Syndrome is often classed as a learning disability. You wouldn't be posting on an internet forum without the collective brains of quite a few people who in all likelihood had AS. But hey, you prevent us from procreating if we're not able to work. Angry

Graphista · 08/11/2016 18:04

Jess don't let em win!

Mango tell me about it! Been there got the t shirt, sweatshirt, cap jacket the lot! I too am very mentally ill, I also have a physical disability which means I am in pain most days (and nights), and that affects my mobility to the point it further impacts my mh as I'm afraid to tackle certain physical obstacles to just getting out the flat!

My daughter is also physically disabled, only recently diagnosed as rare condition with symptoms similar to a less rare one. I'm worried sick for her if we have another 37 years of right wing governance.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/11/2016 18:05

I have said on Mumsnet before, nice to see Marie Stopes is alive and well and posting regularly. Hmm

Graphista Flowers

Completely ineffective virtual flowers for you xx

Graphista · 08/11/2016 18:08

Why Hmm? It's a fact it's even been admitted by certain govt workers including one I know personally. So has the FACT that assessors get bonuses for meeting targets for rejecting claims (almost all claims that are rejected are awarded on appeal - also fact)

the locations for claim interviews are deliberately chosen to deter people from making a claim
If you have a problem with this, I suggest you do the research, there is a thread on here about it.
Last week dd had to travel a significant distance from where she lives, we ended up at a place with no blue badge parking, in fact, no parking and with wheelchair access that is only possible in a self propelled chair with somebody else pushing.
An assessment centre in south london was caught out putting an 'out of order' sign on the lift. You failed for non attendance if you didn't get upstairs and you failed for being able to get upstairs if you garnered help.

The right to have a state sponsored child is what worries me.
As I said, Marie Stopes, still posting...

Oh, by the way, under Labour we did have help. We had some adaptions (can't get them anymore), another member of the family had weekly support which was removed under the coalition. He also had fortnightly support from a qualified nurse. That was made six weekly under the Tory government. He was from that point on denied access to hospital, not provided with consistent help and has lost his family. It was better under Labour, help did still exist.

Ayeok · 08/11/2016 18:16

The right to have a state sponsored child is what worries me Shock
People who are clearly not very nice people being able to foist their views into vulnerable children worries me.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/11/2016 18:19

Yeah, but we already know what nonsense you do believe Jake, you've made it abundantly clear.

sashh · 08/11/2016 18:19

How can it be far when people on benefits receive more than those who work?

How can it be fair footballers earn more than surgeons?

How can it be fair that working doesn't pay more than benefits.

A neighbour is a single parent with three children.

Except she isn't. Her feckless sister had 6 kids and didn't look after them so they went in to care, my neighbour is their aunt, she took on three children at age 19. She has saved the state (ie us) a fortune. Her mother took on the other 3, she is a disabled woman living on benefits because she can't work and look after them.

I hope I've been clear when I've said that the state shouldn't be enabling parents in the first 'category' (although illiterate is a bit of a red herring) and equally clear that the state should support families with children in the second. Haven't I?

You do realise that most people with disabilities didn't start that way? What do you meant to do when a 30 year old father or a 3 year old is involved in an accident? Do you take their child away?

PortiaCastis · 08/11/2016 18:19

Jess I know what it's like to bring up a child on your own. I know what a fairytale wedding cost my Dad. When he walked me down the aisle I was over the moon. Little did I know my gorgeous groom who was loaded would turn into a violent alchoholic.
I was lucky that my Mum could help me a bit with money otherwise I'd still be in that awful hostel.
It seems a world away now but it wasn't pretty.
I've struggled and like you hated not working.
If exh could be found he'll get taken to the cleaners.
Bastard hasn't even bothered to see his dd for over 5 years

ChangingNamesAgain · 08/11/2016 18:21

SMLD child?? What exactly is that supposed to mean? Are you trying to refer to a child with (SM??) leawning disabilities?

The child is a person first and formost and lives with learning disabilities. Stop being so disablist.

The minimum wage is £7.20 an hour so two full time workers in a couple will earn £26k a year before tax (if 7 hours a day) and £24k after tax/NI. The benefits cap in London is about £23k after tax as it were. So really the cap is about the same as working full time which is amazing - why bother to work when you can both sit at home and be handed this cash from hard working tax payers in couples where both work full time and pay a whole of one wage in child care.

Absolutely. It makes my blood boil.

Graphista · 08/11/2016 18:26

Yes I blame the current govt, their attitude to the sick/disabled is appalling, even the UN agrees.

While new labour were marginally better, I do think 37 years of right wing governance has led us to where we are now.

Thank fuck the un finally finished that report, I thought it would never come out.

The article missed that we are the first country to have the honour of being investigated (& now confirmed) as having viousted the rights of people with disabilities. Out of all un states it is the UK, under dc, who earn this shame.
