WIBU to buy this wedding dress?

We're getting married next year and I've found my dream dress on Shillas, at a really affordable price. The dress is beautiful and just what I wanted but I'm a bit Confused at ordering a wedding dress online.

The reviews on their website about the dress itself are all really positive, and there's quite a few of them. But when I looked for reviews of Shillas as a company, they are overwhelmingly negative.

i'm in a bit of a pickle as it's the perfect dress but now I'm worried that the company are a bit shit.
WIBU to chance it?

Sorry to be this uneducated person, but how do I view the pictures? Confused

Mistoffelees · 06/11/2016 09:57

OP has put a link on first page, the 'This' in the "this is the dress" post Smile

It's a beautiful dress and I don't think there's any way in hell it could be made for £150. (Sorry)

Trifleorbust · 06/11/2016 10:01

If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. £150 for that dress is totally unrealistic. It will be awful.

There was a to program about wedding dresses like this and they were all poor quality and people lost their money. Don't buy something this important online. Could you find a local dressmaker who can make a dress with the features you like. We did this and had a beautiful dress at a much lower price. tried on expensive dress, took lots of photos and didn't buy

Celticlassie · 06/11/2016 10:25

That's so funny - that is the exact dress I wanted for my wedding last year. I ended up getting a different one - a sample sale one that I loved. The only thing I'll caution you (and I apologise if it's a duplicate, haven't RTFT yet) is that it was that exact picture I saw but definitely on a different site, so clearly a designer's picture, not a manufacturer's picture.

Where (except Chinese websites!) can you get a real genuine new wedding dress from for £500?! All the shops I looked and tried on in were from around £1200 upwards!
Seriously OP don't do it! It will be crap I guarantee it,buy a second hand real designer dress with your £500 that can be altered profesionally to fit you perfectly.

summerainbow · 06/11/2016 11:48

Try on wedding dressing dress even if they out of your budget. As you won't know what suits you .

JammyGem · 06/11/2016 12:00

Thank you everyone. I'm going to try to find a few outlet places nearby and ask at local bridal shops about the sale/sample onest. Hopefully I can find something in my budget.

I just want it over and done with and as I'm getting a lot of pressure from DM telling me that i need to get one at least 6 months before...

If you want a brand new one then she's right but as you're going to be looking at sample ones you've got way more flexibility. Enjoy trying them on, I wish I'd tried more different styles on as when else are you going to have the excuse to put on a massive poofy ball gown?

zigzagbetty · 07/11/2016 11:05

i got mine for 400 and it was fab!!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 07/11/2016 13:31

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Your DM saying that you need to get a dress at least 6 months before your wedding is if you go into a bridal shop they will usually need about that amount of time to order one in for your measurements. If you're happy with a dress from Debenhams or eBay or elsewhere, then you can go and buy one off the rail if you're lucky to be able to fit into one off the rail (without requiring alterations).

If you're in the UK, check out www.hitched.co.uk/wedding-bridalwear-shop/ for a list of bridal shops that would be near you.

I can't see a £150 dress being of good quality, sorry. You'd be better off looking for a good quality second hand one. One of the most beautiful brides I ever saw picked up an absolutely stunning one from ebay for £200 then spent another £100 on alterations to make sure it fitted perfectly. It looked like it cost ten times that much.

TheWoodlander · 07/11/2016 13:42

I got mine from an independent bridal shop, and it was £400-odd, reduced from £750. It was a lovely dress, just what I wanted. So it can be done. I also very very nearly wore one from Monsoon, which was lovely and less than £200.

On no account get one from China, they're nearly always awful.

StrawberryQuik · 07/11/2016 14:06

Mine was from Monsoon and was lovely quality. I also tried dresses on in Debenhams and BHS, at least in RL you can feel the fabric etc.

I saw a wedding dress in Tesco the other week! It was simple but very pretty.
