Aibu to give up on home remedies and take dd to doc about constipation - just because I've had enough

I have posted on here about all our silly little medical things - most lately quinsy last week (me). Plus a whole host of other temporary and minor issues that just seem to come one after another. I just feel like I've had enough.

My 12 month old dd is constipated she has been for 3 days. She is going ok but screaming and had a little cut . I have half heartedly tried some home remedies I went to go to the chemist but burst into tears at the thought of it and headed home.

Aibu to just go to the gp and cry at them to fix it without trying my hardest first.

I know it sounds really stupid but I am seriously at the end of my tether with it all. Again we are generally healthy just stupid little things.

What does she drink normally?

Lactulose can cause stomach cramps in my experience

I used brown sugar in water its gentle and works fast

She just has normal cows milk and water normally.

Well my trip to the chemist was a waste of time. It's a teeny boots and they didn't seem to have anything I wanted. I did get some Vaseline and I got some prune pouches. But I asked about magnesium and the woman looked at me like I'd asked for cyanide.

So I'm trying what I got. I don't know how long it will take for a call back from the doctor . Last time I did it a few months ago they never called back at all so god knows.

I had a dd with chronic constipation and my Swedish HV who loved traditional remedies recommended prune or pear purees added to morning porridge as they have a laxative effect. I used the baby puree jars

The other over the counter remedy that works well is lactolose - can add it to food or drinks or get the orange flavour

With the constipation, have you tried dried apricots? They're very sweet and your DD might love the taste.

When I was not that young, I ate one of the share bags that would probably last a family of four a month.

I don't think my toilet ever forgave me, so for toddler it might only take a couple!

Well no phonecall back so I called them and have an appointment in a couple of hours . Sad

Good. Some GPs see you coming with babies and toddlers in tow and say "Of course you're tired/down/anxious what do you expect"
so my advice is to WRITE DOWN what you want to say. Then if you cry (and you might, and you won't be the first patient to do that with the doctor!!) You can at least pass them the note.
I suggest you point out you're not normally like this, you think something's wrong, (I'm presuming with the first 5 children you didn't feel overwhelmed like this)
I had to resort to crying and passing a GP a note once and it turned out I had extremely low iron levels, therefore so little enegry I couldn't function properly.
take it easy OP Flowers

Sorry I know the OP was about your baby but I think you're in need of help too. Crying instead of going into a chemist's isn't normal, is it? If you had quinsy last week you'll still be feeling tired with it. good luck at the doctor's.

Cheesy - no the first 5 were great , easy babies and I coped no problem.

Ok got some lactulose so hopefully that will help.

I should have said that food grade Epsom salts (they usually have them in the chemist's) would do. It's magnesium sulphate. Quite bitter tasting so you would have to dissolve a bit in water and then disguise that with something sweet. Magnesium citrate is less bitter, you can get it from Amazon. Hope the lactulose helps.
