I realise the title sounds like I've shoved something where I shouldn't have (or "tripped and fell") and need it removed. Sorry to disappoint, not one of those stories!!

I had a coil fitted this Saturday and it was excruciating (literally a whole other thread), according to the little booklet afterwards, it shouldn't have been that painful.
Afterwards, Satan's mistress the doctor tried to use an ultrasound on my belly to check it was in the right place.
Because I have, and I quote, a "backwards" uterus, and I was in so much pain I couldn't stay still, she gave up before seeing it.

Cramps are totally normal apparently, but I've been distinctly feeling a stabbing pain - always in the same space, and alongside the cramps. Its not constant, but frequent enough and when I feel it it makes it difficult to stand up.
It feels a lot like something is stuck and is pressing into the side of my uterus, but I'm not convinced that isn't me just with that idea in my head IYSWIM.

I put up with it for several days but in the end called 111 yesterday to ask what to do.
I spoke to a lovely nurse who told me I should get an ultrasound again to try and see that it was in the right place, hadn't perforated my uterus or got stuck in my cervix. She said to go to A+E.

I said I didn't really fancy getting out of my PJs and wasting an evening in A+E that I could spend eating ice cream - which in itself is a good sign of someone who doesn't need to go to A+E. She laughed, agreed and said then if I felt I could cope, to call family planning in the morning (who fitted it).

Now after hours and hours of phone calls, I have found out that there are only two places within travelling distance that have ultrasound that aren't the hospital - neither have doctors present until next Tuesday.
My GP can refer me to the ultrasound at the hospital for an appointment, but again that won't happen until Tuesday. None of the walk in centres have the right equipment.

I don't think I have a choice but to go to A+E (which is literally 2 minutes from work) after work.

But it isn't an Emergency. I feel ridiculous for going, I feel like I'll be wasting their time! This is not the purpose of the service, surely?
I'm embarrassed to trot over and whinge that my "belly hurts" whilst people come in holding their own heads under their elbows etc and have swords coming out their chests.
Though I appreciate that beheadings and sword injuries will have priority.

Definately go. I've just had my coil removed. I was having real problems, heavy bleeding and after a scan, it turns out it had slipped and got 'wedged' in my cervix Sad

Issiwissiletsgetbusy · 03/11/2016 23:13

Get your GP to check the coil strings. If the strings are visible in the cervix, it is correctly sited and won't have perforated.
The fitting and after pain is hugely variable from zilch to real hell........
They can't scan you in A&E- you'd need to get an urgent scan appt.
perforation v rare - so hopefully you're ok- worst case scenario it all heals well- no negative sequelae womb wise..... but it's the having to remove the device that's a nightmare - good luck
My advice- get strings checked ASAP - then maybe no need for scan xxx

Go, go, go!!!

user1469639526 · 04/11/2016 01:06

You don't sound silly so definitely go to A+E to get it checked
I am on my third coil and never experienced what you are
Piece of mind if its normal

WanderingTrolley1 · 04/11/2016 01:10

No update from OP.

Lucked · 04/11/2016 01:47

Feel I have come to this thread too late but if you need an ultrasound for a coil you probably need to be at the hospital early, most won't have anyone on site for ultrasound after 5pm.

Good luck OP

Not necessarily enola, a Dyson might be the solution!

Hope you're ok OP Chocolate

OP this happened to me luckily my Boots walk in centre had an ultrasound machine but i still had to wait 3 days for an appointment. It had slipped and was stuck in my cervix and had to be removed very painful.
It was my 3 rd coil first 2 had been fine

Alleycat1 · 04/11/2016 07:32

I haven't read tft but a friend of mine had a perforated uterus after coil insertion and had to undergo a full hysterectomy because she "didn't want to bother the Dr." If you are still in pain please go to A & E; some people go for an ingrown toenail, so staff won't think you are wasting their time.

treacletoffee23 · 04/11/2016 08:14

Are you ok OP?Flowers

Hi all, thanks for all your support!

So I managed to get an external examination yesterday, where my stomach was pokes hard.
No weird anomoly there and I didn't hurt to be poked, but did afterwards.
The last two days have been better, the cramping is bad when it happens but its not constant. The localised stabbing pain was only after the prodding.
I started bleeding this morning but I think that's normal.

Was told to see how the weekend goes and contact the clinic that fitted it next week if there's still trouble.

DP and I aren't DTD until we're certain everything is in the right place, as I hear rumours that child birth hurts too.

A very boring update I'm afraid.
I did see a lady walking her cat yesterday, if that adds spice to the story.

Think I love you a bit btw OP

Btw, the Burrell Street clinic in Waterloo is amazing, they are a sexual health clinic that specialise in this kind of things and take walk-ins. So friendly too. Would recommend to go there if you need to be seen again.

GabsAlot · 04/11/2016 09:58

RentANDBills · 04/11/2016 11:04

Glad it's settled down a bit OP.

Would it be a lot to ask for them to warn us?
Little procedure... Bit like a smear... Works miracles for heavy periods...

Bollocks!

Lovingit81 · 04/11/2016 14:35

Go to A&E! Don't be embarrassed, you matter!! You've explored all other options. You are in increasing pain. Look after yourself and get thee to a hospital. Best of luck Flowers

Dizzywizz · 04/11/2016 15:44

To be fair though pklme, that's how it has been for both of mine and I guess if that's how it is for the majority, that's how they're going to sell it to you...

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 05/11/2016 18:50

hope you are ok

notapizzaeater · 05/11/2016 18:55

Could you not pay for a private scan at one of those 4d centres ?
