For me, champagne all the way. I won a pub quiz recently and the prize was a bottle of champagne but actually it turned out to be prosecco Was v disappointed. Cava, now - yes please.

We had Cava at our wedding. I like Champagne, but only very expensive stuff. Cava is an excellent alternative.

Go for Cava. Most people won't be able to tell the difference, particularly if it's only for the toast.

In blind taste tests hardly anyone can tell the difference and even if they can, they often prefer the cheaper one.

On Eat Well for Less, a couple were previously spending £180 a time on big brand champagne for a dinner party and they switched it for Aldi cava at a fiver a bottle and most people liked it better or didn't mind the switch considering how much money was saved (£150).

I'd definitely go for sparkling wine or otherwise, if mumzilla insists on champagne, perhaps she would like to pay the difference?

Sparkling wine for me as well. I find champagne too dry and think cava or prosecco is a great alternative for a wedding toast.

Champagne is a sparkling wine from a specific region. Nice Cava or Prosecco anytime over a shit Champagne. But when it comes to basic Cava vs. basic Champagne = Champagne wins

I'd prefer a glass of cava to prosecco but I'd happily drink whatever fizzy wine was handed to me!

Sparkling wine. Every time.

Ooh, Kir Royale would be nice for a winter wedding. I wouldn't mind a Buck's Fizz either tbh (although obviously not if you have a really nice wine!).

Sparkling wine - most people can't tell the difference so not worth the extra cost!

My favourite fizz which I prefer to champagne is Clairette de Die from the town of Die in northern Provence - not always easily available in local shops in Britain, sold by wine merchants for about £16 but occasionally to be found in Lidl at £6.99! (I put a dozen in the trolley on that occasion!) The traditional clairette iirc is a bit sweeter than champagne.

Champagne is so over rated. Too dry by half.
