To wonder if you need a penis to operate this boat?

Otherwise, why else could it possibly be "ideal for boys"? Or is it probable that girls wouldn't want to play with boats, or things relating to the police?

Such an unnecessary addition to the description

such a double standard. My girls play with anything, and so are their friends, at least until they reach "teenhood" when they believe they are women. Blue is for both gender of course, however pink is strictly for girls. I have never seen a boy receive a "girly" birthday or Christmas present. Honestly, has anyone?

hefzi · 28/10/2016 15:09

MLG where does one obtain this penis recognition software you speak so highly of? It would be extremely useful to have about one's person etc (Asking for a friend Grin)

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/10/2016 15:11

Best thread title I've seen in a while, OP Grin

OlennasWimple · 28/10/2016 15:12

All right thinking people should be pissed off with this, Queenbean!

madasa · 28/10/2016 16:04

My daughter's got a vagina but she's an engineer.....should I be worried?

JessieMcJessie · 28/10/2016 16:08

There was a thing in the Daily Fail the other day about a Mum being incensed because a supermarket cashier told her son he had picked "the girl's one" when he chose a Frozen kinder egg. Good on her.

JessieMcJessie · 28/10/2016 16:08

The Mum not the cashier!

noblegiraffe · 28/10/2016 16:13

Oh I saw that kinder egg article. Apparently the people who make kinder eggs say that the eggs are gender neutral but are coloured pink (Frozen) and blue (Marvel) so that parents can distinguish between the different toy ranges.

ladydepp · 28/10/2016 16:29

Argos are idiots. Love the thread title. In a similar vein a friend was standing on a table changing a light bulb when her (very old school) father walked in and said "shouldn't you let your husband do that?" and she shouted very loudly "I don't need a PENIS to change a light bulb!". Her father blushed but had the decency to say "very true!".

Aeroflotgirl · 28/10/2016 16:37

Just ignore the gender crap, if your dd wants the boat, buy it for her, Mabey get some play mobile lady figures to stick on it and do away with the Penises 😉😉. Just bought a wooden kitchen and a Henry vacuume for ds 4:9 years for Christmas present, and a whole load of pretend cleaning stuff. He will be absolutely delighted as its his favourite things to cook and clean, learning fast😉 Dh shoukd learn to copy him😂😂

Queenbean · 28/10/2016 17:06

Hi Madasa, thanks for bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately, it's not physically possible for your daughter to be both a woman and an engineer. Either:

  • she has grown a penis and it's a hilarious joke she's playing on you, a simple woman, to believe she could get such a qualification
  • she's lying and looks after children, in the kitchen. And puppies. And kittens. And makes bows. And does sewing.

Hope this helps.

I expect you mean she makes tea for real, male, engineers with penises, madasa. There IS a difference, you know...

JosephineMaynard · 28/10/2016 18:08

Oh, come on Hmm

I bought DS1 a Marvel Kinder egg today. It had a picture of Iron Man and Captain America prominently displayed on it. Even without the colour coding, what kind of idiot parent would pick an egg with pictures of superheroes on it - and then be surprised that the egg had a Marvel superhero instead of a Frozen character in the middle? (And vice versa, of course)

NotWeavingButDarning · 28/10/2016 18:09

Well, as it's not in a pink box, I can't even see it tbh, with my double x chromosomes.

I'd better hurry to Ann Summers and buy me a penis so I can sail my boat tomorrow. Hmm

GinIsIn · 28/10/2016 18:11

It's not pink and sparkly - I don't understand how it's meant to work or what it does? Confused

MadameJosephine · 28/10/2016 18:22

This is why I joined mn in the first place, I have found my people. When I say things like this in real life people roll their eyes at me Sad but it genuinely drives me insane. My DD loves everything pink and sparkly I'm not sure she is mine but this is NOT because she is the owner of a vagina, it's just a preference. Her male cousin likes nothing better than a manicure and his penis hasn't fallen off yet

"Boys spy pen" on Amazon:

Two sins: sexism and lack of apostrophe

DesertIslandPenguin · 28/10/2016 20:21

I'm so sorry, but all that I can think of is the Tommy Lee and Pammie Anderson sex tape where he does drive the boat with his penis Grin

CharleyDavidson · 28/10/2016 20:21

Oh dear. One Christmas I bought this for DD1.... to supplement all the non-gender specific Brio train set stuff, I hasten to add.

She loved it.

Are you on twitter OP? Tweet that picture to @LetToysBeToys and @Argos_Online, they might change it.

icantbelieveitsnotchristmasyet · 28/10/2016 21:06

Urgh, just urgh. Ffs Argos stop being so ridiculous! I'm seeing this sort of crap everywhere at the moment

Aeroflotgirl · 29/10/2016 09:26

This has been happening for years now, if your dd likes boys toys, then there is nothing stopping you going out and buying it. I loved boys toys in the 1980's, He Man, Action Man, Transformers etc, I am afraid Barbie and Sindy's dream house just did not cut it. I also wore boys clothes as I preferred them, my parents just bought them for me.

Aeroflotgirl · 29/10/2016 09:27

I am pleased though, ds loves domestic stuff, they have a good range of gender neutural kitchen's and cleaning things.

Queenbean · 29/10/2016 09:37

I'm sorry, could you explain how a police boat is a "boys toy"?
