Just how bad is it to apply make-up at your desk? And what about cyclists getting changed and draping their kit all over the place?

Following on from the thread about eating breakfast at work, can we discuss applying make-up at your desk?

I have a complicated skin-care routine and like to have time for my various creams to sink in before applying make-up. I also find that I get sweaty on my commute (I'm unfit) or my make-up can be ruined by rain.

I get to work via a combination of very busy buses/car/walking. (On different days).

Does it matter if the office is open-plan or more private? Is it wrong to apply perfume? Most of my colleagues are other women, if that matters. Does it depend if it's full on contouring vs a bit of lipgloss?

Also, some folk cycle and change at work. The office then looks like a teenager's bedroom with clothes draped everywhere.

Many thanks for your thoughts!

Pop well you lost me at the ladies comment! Grin

that is YOUR personal opinion, doesn't mean it is someone else's personal opinion!

I have spent countless hours listening to people talk loudly on the train for ages (no I don't do that!), listening to loud music coming through their headphones (yes even with all the Bose ear coverer things if it is too LOUD I can still hear your annoying music Wink, people eating and drinking on the train - I drink out of a travel mug but nothing else and sometimes the odd bacon butty or cake but again not really smelly food like chicken wings.

What was a makeup compact for originally especially gas masks with a compartment for a makeup compact (Elizabeth Arden and Estee Lauder both did these in black velvet) apart for touching up/applying your makeup in public? if that is in a washroom/public toilet or on public transport then what is the problem?

SpunkyMummy · 31/10/2016 10:00

You make me feel rather hopeless. I didn't know I should look down on people because of their makeup habits... or that other people would judge me for mine.

I guess I'm lucky I don't work in an open office... and that I don't wear a lot of makeup.

FKat2016 · 31/10/2016 10:01

But putting makeup on is not an unhygienic activity?! How can you compare it with cutting toenails???

LaurieMarlow · 31/10/2016 10:14

Travelling on the tube into work I do find myself strangely drawn to watch those women who spend the entire journey putting on make-up! In my humble opinion 9 times out of 10 I think they looked so much better before the make-up application than afterwards

These women aren't interested in your opinion.

It's their choice to spend their time on makeup and their preferences are what matters on this one. Not the silent judgement of some random on the tube.

GloveBug · 31/10/2016 11:45

There are a lot of uptight people on here!! I do my makeup on the train every day. Don't really care what people think. It doesn't impact on them. Perfume is a different matter but why get upset with someone doing their make up?

Well done, ladies, we've made the Daily Mail!

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3889960/Is-acceptable-apply-make-desk.html

This is the 2nd time one of my threads has become famous
My other one was about sporn.

I had doctors appointment this morning (late) so did my make up at home rather than on public transport this morning.

I am expecting a big fat pat on the back from Poppy, Maraschino and woowoowoo at some point... Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 01/11/2016 12:01

OMG the Fail article is hilarious... seems they don't seem to mind us putting on our 'slap' on the train. good old Fail never thought I'd hear myself saying that!

SpunkyMummy · 04/11/2016 10:03

older

Well, there is worse stuff on the floor?

AlexaTwoAtT · 04/11/2016 10:06

Good grief. You are celebrating because the lazy Daily Mail lifted the thread. Impressive.
As impressive as putting on your icky make up, in public view, on an actual train. Soooooooo cool.

SpunkyMummy · 04/11/2016 10:19

alexa

Well, different people need different things to be happy...

SuperFlyHigh · 04/11/2016 10:29

Alex it was Chicken first celebrating because Daily Mail featured her post - but then I was equally happy because they seemed to be siding with us lazy slatterns who put on make up on public transport!

woowoowoo I love your sarcasm. At least Fail has clarified and most of their commenters have clarified - we are not trollops who put on our slap on the train! yay!!! Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 04/11/2016 10:53

Make up in the ladies, apart from lip balm at your desk (mainly because I just think it's the same as getting ready, if that makes sense, you would't dry your hair or rub moisturiser into your legs etc at your desk.
There is one lady I see do full make up on the train, it takes ages and is quite fascinating to watch, nobody bats an eyelid (pun intended) as we're all too busy eating our hard boiled breakfast eggs.

2kids2dogsnosense · 04/11/2016 13:28

WOW!

Here's me thinking we're just swapping personal views, and all of this time we've been "embroiled" in a "furious debate".

I've never been embroiled before ()

SpunkyMummy · 04/11/2016 13:34

maddie

Make up in the ladies

All these commenters calling it the ladies... that's worse than applying makeup at your desk. 😂
