Hotel would not accomodate mum with two children

Am I wrong to be outraged at the Holiday Inn Regents Park, London for not being able to cater for a mother and two children? They do not have family rooms (at any time) and would not allow an interconnecting room, saying an adult had to be present in both rooms. This is the first hotel that I have encountered that just had no solution for this.

What a surprise the op hasn't come back, oh wait, i'm not Grin

BoomBoomsCousin · 23/10/2016 23:49

Sirzy I don't suggest they stop it. I suggest it is an absurd policy because it is not followed, cannot be enforced and serves no reasonable purpose, so it's impact is simply to disadvantage single parents.

BoomBoomsCousin · 23/10/2016 23:50

Sorry for autocorrects/typos.

Yes it does My Grin

Balletgirlmum · 24/10/2016 00:04

But the hotel in the OP does allow you to book 2 interconnecting rooms for 1 adult & 2 children

Just curious, do any specify an age at which children are allowed a separate (interconnected or not) room?

Balletgirlmum · 24/10/2016 00:12

Well if you consider that thousands of schoolchildren go on London theatre trips with overnight stays each year there are not adults in every room on those.

Ohdearducks · 24/10/2016 00:17

Yabu to be outraged, I'd hate to see your reaction to an actual problem if something this insignificant causes outrage Confused

BoomBoomsCousin · 24/10/2016 00:18

I'll look forward to it My!

avamiah · 24/10/2016 00:27

OP,
In my opinion I think there has been some sort of communication breakdown, confusion on the Hotel's part because most Large hotels do not use the term "family room'anymore but of course they know what you are looking for, a room big enough to fit 2 roll away beds in or a room with 2 double beds in, depending the age of your kids if they could share.
Therefore you should of been offered a executive room or junior suite etc which would be big enough for you and your children.

shazkiwi · 24/10/2016 00:31

All you have to do is lie & put down 2 adults on the booking then you would get interconnecting rooms.

Balletgirlmum · 24/10/2016 00:34

That particular hotel does not have any suites & its executive rooms are still only large enough for two people - they are executive due to telephone & internet connections & bathroom/refreshment facilities.

avamiah · 24/10/2016 00:49

Ballet,
Usually Executive rooms are slightly bigger than a standard room and allow for a extra bed for a child and yes give you a bath robe .
I don't know the Hotel in question but would of thought that they would of been able to accommodate OP.
Maybe they were fully booked and the larger rooms had gone.

RetroImp · 24/10/2016 00:52

FFS OP - get over yourself! There are hundreds of hotels in London and several in the area.

Balletgirlmum · 24/10/2016 00:58

I've looked at a few holiday inns in London & all the others have rooms that will accommodate an extra bed.

This is the only one that doesn't. I assume it must be to do with size of rooms in that particular hotel.

avamiah · 24/10/2016 01:01

Ballet,
Yes,
your spot on.
It's all about Fire Regulations.

Undersmile · 24/10/2016 01:14

HI at Kensington also never has family rooms available so I assume they don't so them. I always want to stay there as the car park is good and it's close to museums, but there's never rooms when I've looked.

Butteredpars1ps · 24/10/2016 01:20

You could try picking up the telephone if the computer says no

Hysterectical · 24/10/2016 02:54

You have to say outraged to get a picture in the Daily Mail and your £300. If you just said annoyed best you would get is a no win no fee ambulance chaser.

SlottedSpoon · 24/10/2016 03:16

All these people sayin hey don't want families there - that's not necessarily true. They would presumably put families I. Interconnecting rooms quite happily. They just have a policy of having an adult in each room that's all. It doesn't mean they won't take children.

Just find a hotel that suits your needs. Simple really.
