If the US and Russia become at war with each other, can we possibly stay out of it?

What if Donald Trump is president when it all kicks off?

Should I buy a gun? Or build a shelter? Or stock up on tins?

I am genuinely frightened.

For all his craziness Putin is too sensible

It's really coming to something when Putin is the sensible one.

Please God, Trump cannot be President.

Hi op there have been some similar threads recently so you're not alone. I am prone to anxiety and there does seem to be a lot of shit happening at the moment.
humans are hardwired to pay more attention to threats than to positive situations as this would have been an evolutionary advantage. Statistically we are wealthier, safer and in better health than most humans ever. Not sure if this helps you at all...

trump n putin are big mates anyway so if trump gets in thats one worry less at least

Fritz I don't need to see the GP, thank you for your concern. I was talking about a currently very hypothetical scenario of a Russian invasion amist national and global chaos and panic and having a gang of soilders banging at my door ready to rape me and my kids. This is NOT anywhere near an actual, immediately impending issue!

And I lived through the 70s when we were all being told to put tinfoil on our windows to protect against radiation from nuclear bombs.

What was dangerous about the 80s?

Umm... Let me think... Do I remember a Gulf war?

Hmm

You know everything happens for a reason? Maybe Trump is the 'something'? Bloody hell.

Oh and I do know it's fiction but if anyone saw Series 4 of House of Cards they'll remember that the Russian president (played by Lars Mikkelsen) is actually very smart and sensible and not extremist at all, just great at political posturing.

what extraordinary responses op.

Of course its a very worrying time, when tensions are ramped up to a high level of course it could be any incident that accidentally kicks it all off! Wars have been started on similar as we know Confused

Accidents happen - relations have broken down, things escalate.

The fact is - Putin is acting like a wild Bear tearing up and eating what he wants and NO ONE IS STOPPING HIM.

Really its not a step to far to think he may go too far - drunk on his wild world stage excess and things kick off.
But where? Where would they fight? and HOw?

The Golf War wasn't in the 80s. (Unless there was a Gulf War predecessor to 1990 Gulf War I know about.)

oh I really wouldnt worry about that if you are just hypothesising, then. there are about a thousand more likely horrific possible futures for the uk, but the russians going door to door raping people must be pretty low down on the list.

The Petrov Incident. 1983 was it? (For those talking about the 80s.)

Keep smiling and keep your fingers crossed. Gin is available for the darker moments.

mostly they involve having no food or money due to global depressions/trade wars and not actually growing much food plus having no control over our power. much more boring. buy gold.

I'm old too.

We are telling you to calm down because we did panic, hysteria, terror and all that already.

It achieved fuck all.

What did happen is we realised that these things only kick off when someone can financially gain.

They have to flex though.

BombadierFritz · 21/10/2016 23:03

The way I see it is why worry about something you can not control and can not change

I don't think many countries would willing walk in to a war with Russia, or the US

Thankfully our garden is full of protected trees. Otherwise I could see my self out there digging an underground den.

Gold is a good idea. It's not earning anything in the bank. How easy is it he chip bits off a bullion?

When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s there was a film called "When the wind blows." Never actually saw it but so many of my friends did and spoke about it. . ...and with all that was in the news at the time I thought a nuclear bomb would be dropping at any time.

If the powers that be are going to start a nuclear was we are pretty screwed. It's up to you how far you go in preparation for a potentially hypothetical scenario.

The media is scaremongering as per usual. "Ooooh Russian warships nearby etc....."
In the USA it was advised to have at least 48 hours of water and tinned food etc......but that was for bad weather related scenarios.

Report
BombadierFritz · 21/10/2016 23:08

oh god that film was traumatising!

Some people reckon it's already started - e.g. this article by John Pilger from March.

A World War Has Begun, Break the Silence

Why worry about something you have no control over? Why stress over something you can not change?

Not many countries would willing go to war with Russia or America.

And IF the worst happened people would just cope and deal with it like they did with wars of the past.

We've got until November 9 anyway. Smile No-one is going to start anything until then.
