AIBU to go to cinema on my own?

Desperate to see Bridget Jones Baby and basically everyone I've asked has already been! (Feeling slightly shit that no one has asked me to go with them). Shall I go on my own? Or is that really sad? Also is it more a film to see with girlfriends?

I often go to cinema on my own. It's a great pastime for when I'm on my tod and at a loose end.

Yes I go to gigs solo as well, I find it easy to get chatting to others as you're all either fans of the band already, curious about them, or simply like live music and came in to listen.

I also really want to go and watch this, but no I'm too scared to go alone 🙈

Go for it Hannah, what's to worry about? And the film is brilliant BTW.

Why? What are you scared of? Genuinely curious. I know a couple of people like this and it baffles me!
Go, you'll love it! Why would you rather stay at home and miss it just because you have no-one to go with?
Honestly, nobody will even notice or care that you're by yourself. You're all in the dark watching the same film anyway!

I go alone if nobody else wants to see something or if I can only go in the afternoon or something. Lots of people go alone. There is nothing scary about it.

polyhymnia · 28/10/2016 19:59

What could be at all scaring about going to the cinema on your own?

I have only read first couple of pages of replies but I am astounded by most of the negatives: smug and selfish. Bridget Jones is the archetypal singleton, is she not allowed to go to the cinema alone? Go, treat yourself and enjoy.

polyhymnia · 28/10/2016 20:57

I thought the vast majority of replies agreed it was absolutely fine - in fact enjoyable - to go to the cinema on your own.

Yes, old, I don't really understand your reading of the thread.

oldandcrabby. Eh?

Once I started going to the cinema on my own I realised I preferred going alone to going with friends. Sometimes I use my flexi in work to take an afternoon off to watch the screenings aimed at OAPs - you even get a free cup of coffee at those ones! I find I can totally immerse myself in the film if I'm on my own.
