AIBU to go to cinema on my own?

Desperate to see Bridget Jones Baby and basically everyone I've asked has already been! (Feeling slightly shit that no one has asked me to go with them). Shall I go on my own? Or is that really sad? Also is it more a film to see with girlfriends?

I'd rather not say where I am. Might out me with my other posts! It's a one off I think just circumstances has led to them all having seen it with other friends not necessarily mutual friends. I hope that's the case anyway ! I'm generally an organiser! So that doesn't help people never tend to ask me because I'm always organising

Why are people always so afraid to do things alone? In my experience, if I don't go to things alone then I often don't get to do them - full stop. I accept that my tastes may not be everybody's and that other people may not be free when I am. So if I want to go to something - I just go! Simple.

Just GO! I love going to the cinema alone, just as much as going with other people!
I can never understand why people would rather miss out on seeing something just because no-one else wants to go with them.
There's been quite a few times I've been by myself as DH would rather poke his eyes out than see rom com films, so when there's been stuff on I want to see and he doesn't I just go by myself.
I know a couple of people who would never do that though and I'm always Confused
They actually said - "people might look at me and think I'm a saddo." Erm, no they really won't care or even notice. They'll be too busy scoffing their popcorn and enjoying the film!
Oh, and - "it's not the same as going with someone and discussing it."
You're in the middle of a dark cinema watching a film, you shouldn't be discussing it anyway! If you are, Shut the F Up as people are trying to watch in peace.....
Seriously, go by yourself. It's great and you get all, the popcorn to yourself

I quite enjoyed telling DP and the Kids I was working until 8 last week when I'd actually finished at the usual time and went to see Bridget Jones on my own with a nice glass of wine and some snacks. Best night of the year, actually!

Peanutandphoenix · 20/10/2016 11:55

Just go on your own I go on my own all the time there's nothing sad about it.

Oatsinajar · 20/10/2016 11:56

I went on my own last week. Enjoyed it! I also regularly go out to eat on my own too :)

SapphireStrange · 20/10/2016 12:59

I love the cinema on my own. Ideal scenario is on a weekday afternoon (for the record, I haven't had time to do this for several years!), nice hot chocolate and box of salty popcorn. Bliss. Don't be embarrassed and it's not sad; it's an indulgent treat.

bimbobaggins · 20/10/2016 13:08

I absolutely love going to the cinema on my own and wouldn't bat an eyelid at anyone else in the cinema on their own. Seriously, o one will notice or care.

Going to the cinema alone is one of my favorites things...it's my go to thing when I want some alone time. Went this week to see a film ive promised friends I'll see with them next week (was only thing on I fancied) so going to have to pretend I haven't seen it. DP and I have very different tastes in film and I love going the cinema so don't want to have to plan round others, if I didn't go alone, I wouldn't see half the things I have. I saw Bridget on my own...I wasn't the only one. Most of the time I've been alone others have been on their own too. You won't look back.

And yes getting the screen to yourself or a couple of others is fab...I tend to go in the week to get this luxury though

Isthiscorrect · 20/10/2016 13:21

I love going to the movies by myself. I've been doing it for years. An interruption for a few years when Ds came with me. Every Friday morning Dh had a lay in, we went to see whatever was on and then he went off to uni and now I still go just by myself.
In fact if I can get off MN I will be going in a minute after I've put the washing out.
Enjoy the movie OP. I hope you go. It was great fun.

hudyerwheesht · 20/10/2016 13:29

OP if you are in the Bristol area please PM me - I'm in the same boat!

19lottie82 · 20/10/2016 13:34

I love going to the cinema myself!

ladydolly · 20/10/2016 16:05

Another solo cinema lover here. Best part of mat leave (before DD actually arrived). In fact I never really understand going with friends, you don't get to catch up and chat or anything, if I'm going out with my mates I want to talk to them so we go to dinner.

celeste83 · 20/10/2016 16:06

Yes i have, and its never bothered me. Its not like you can talk much during a film anyhow. I prefer going with someone don't get me wrong but i have no problem going by myself either.

TriniRedVelvet · 20/10/2016 16:09

I go on my own. I live in Notts, lots of people on their own at cinema in the daytime.

faffalotty · 20/10/2016 16:21

I went on my own for the very first time recently. I will definitely be doing it again.

Bbee · 20/10/2016 22:49

Ditto faffalotty. Its nice to have someone to sit with but I enjoyed the films just as much on my own. Do it OP.

FionaGatwick · 20/10/2016 23:07

I watched this movie alone :)

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/10/2016 00:49

I love solo cinema. I teach, so in summer I go at least once a week. DP and I have very different tastes, so often in term time I go to the cinema on a Sunday while he watches sport.

May50 · 21/10/2016 05:21

I planned to go and see this alone too, unfortunately the timings just didn't fit with school pick up. Will definitely try and do some time soon though.

ForalltheSaints · 21/10/2016 07:00

Look around you when you go to the cinema and you will not be the only person to go by themselves.

GerdaLovesLili · 21/10/2016 13:31

When I started work at 2pm I used to go the cinema on my own quite often. There was a cinema 10 minutes from my workplace and I could fit in the showing after getting Small Son to school and before I started work.. It meant I could see things without arranging a babysitter or finding things that both of us wanted to see.

NickiFury · 21/10/2016 13:35

I can't remember the last time I went to the cinema with someone else. I always go alone. Obviously kids movies with my kids but 12 plus rating movies I want to see, then I go alone. I just prefer it.

user1474781546 · 21/10/2016 16:53

I wouldn't go to the cinema on my own, because I hate the cinema.

I wouldn't go swimming alone either as I hate that too.

Happy to do most other things on my own, cafes restaurants going on holiday, staying in a hotel alone- totally fine.

bimbobaggins · 21/10/2016 17:38

If you are in Scotland pm me and I'd go with you. I like the cinema on my own too but happy to help out
