To think MN would be better off without that stupid quirked eyebrow face

For want of a better title and semi 'lighthearted' (boak). AIBU to be totally Hmm at Hmm? It's just so bloody snarky seeming. I see it all the time on threads where posters can't be bothered to actually articulate their problem with the poster / thread so just leave that passive aggressive Hmm instead. I'm sure it does have its place but it just seems so over-used at the moment and seems to add a confrontational edge to threads where that's just not needed.

That's it really! Fully expecting all the inevitable Hmm faces in reply... Grin

I'm not very keen on emoticons / emojis / smileys in general. People should be articulate enough to make their point without resorting to some stupid faces.

Sparklingbrook · 19/10/2016 14:59

I love the Hmm face. I generally have that face or the Confused face when I read threads on here.

The Biscuit serves no useful purpose as far as I can tell though.

And I hate all the non MN emojis. Especially the hearts for eyes one and the crying with laughter one. Hmm

Humpty wee faces Grin My favourite is this Confused I need it a lot on MN.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 19/10/2016 15:51

I love the Hmm face. I seriously miss it outside of mn and hate that the closest emoji in meaning is 🙄
I don't always wanna do the full eye roll, sometimes I just wanna raise an eyebrow!!

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 19/10/2016 15:53

"People should be articulate enough..." I massively overuse emojis on everything. Better than the constant misinterpretation that comes with ASD - wish I could emoji in RL tbh Grin

LoisWooookersonsLastNerve · 19/10/2016 15:56

A humpty wee face articulates "Get lost asshole" in a way that won't get me banned from here tbh.

OhNoNotMyBaby · 19/10/2016 16:34

Hmm
A picture [or emoji] says a thousand words....
Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 19/10/2016 16:52

A Hmm face for me generally means 'I can't believe you not only think that but have typed it into a thread on MN', and I'm not typing all that every time.

OhNoNotMyBaby · 19/10/2016 17:00

Sparkling that's only 17 words... can you come up with the other 983 please?

I'll start.... "OMG, is that what you really think? Honestly? You haven't actually sat down and thought about the implications of what you are saying or how it might affect others. Have you done on any research on this?.... "
Wink

Sparklingbrook · 19/10/2016 17:18

The other 983 are usually kept inside my brain just in case. Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/10/2016 17:19

This makes me miss Scottishmummy - she absolutely hated that smiley - the 'humphy wee face', as she called it.

yesterdaysunshine · 19/10/2016 17:23
Hmm

What, come again?
Seriously?

Confused

You fucking idiot.

Smile

I just said something horrible
Oh, see what you mean now
Something nice happened

Grin

That's funny

Biscuit

Twat

CruCru · 19/10/2016 17:30

I can see that not everyone agrees with me. However, I think that if you wouldn't use the stupid faces when emailing your boss / your kids' school / your MP, you probably shouldn't use them at all.

Seeing a sea of SmileGrinWinkShock and Hmm is awful.

Lweji · 19/10/2016 17:34

There's only one possible comment to this, really.

Hmm
Sparklingbrook · 19/10/2016 17:45

Blimey, are we supposed to post on MN like we would in an email to our boss/MP/school. Shock Nobody told me. Sad I will try and bear that in mind from now on. Grin

I thought it was the 'creepy wee brackets' that sm didn't like. Can't remember now. Maybe she didn't like anything.

tibbawyrots · 19/10/2016 17:47

Hmm is the look on my face a lot of the time Grin

I've had business texts sent asking me for quotes for large orders that end in "thanx Hun xxxxxxx" Hmm

I have been deleted only once on MN. For sarcasm. Apparently if I had added a face of some sort it would have been ok. Hmm

Sp sarcasm is ok with a Smile on the end. Presumably.

I can do Hmm with my actual real life face. It's the one my kids fear the most.

Believeitornot · 19/10/2016 18:25

There's nothing passive about the Hmm

Best face ever on MN without a doubt.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/10/2016 18:39

CruCru - I'm sorry, but that is as daft as saying that you'd use the same sort of language in a meeting with your boss and a party with friends at the pub! Different language/styles/mores for different milieux, surely.

Usual - thank-you - I had forgotten about sm's hatred of the creepy wee brackets! Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 19/10/2016 18:43

I know it's really PA but Hmm really is the best one of the lot.
