To think MN would be better off without that stupid quirked eyebrow face

For want of a better title and semi 'lighthearted' (boak). AIBU to be totally Hmm at Hmm? It's just so bloody snarky seeming. I see it all the time on threads where posters can't be bothered to actually articulate their problem with the poster / thread so just leave that passive aggressive Hmm instead. I'm sure it does have its place but it just seems so over-used at the moment and seems to add a confrontational edge to threads where that's just not needed.

That's it really! Fully expecting all the inevitable Hmm faces in reply... Grin

yy agree if you get a Smile you're in deep doo doo

BlancheBlue · 19/10/2016 09:59

I call troll - no-one can have a problem with HMM!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/10/2016 09:59

It's one of those emoticons where it's really annoying if it's used against you and really satisfying to use against someone else

this!!!!

I like it. It means "shut it, troll" in my head.

PrincessWizard · 19/10/2016 10:05

I love it, it's my favourite emoticon Grin

YABU Hmm

HalfShellHero · 19/10/2016 10:07

I used to be on a forum yonks ago where an emoticons eyes actually used to roll! Angry Argh! Hammer to Screen

GiraffesAndButterflies · 19/10/2016 10:09

I frequently look for Hmm on my iPhone emoticons and get annoyed that it's not there. It should be universal, it's the best emoticon ever.

Sandsnake · 19/10/2016 10:10

SleepFreeZone - that's what I mean, it's not the Hmm in itself it's more how it's often used that I'm a bit Hmm about.

Pipsqueak - you're right, I literally have nothing more important to think about. For months now I have spent every waking hour consumed by thoughts of Hmm. In fact, they had something on the news about Syria last night and I thought 'well their situation's not ideal, but it's not exactly as important as people on MN using Hmm is it...'.

Slightly off topic- why are they called emoticons? I said emoticon the other day and my teens laughed at me for being old and said they were emojis.

Obviously I said I got it from Mumsnet so it couldn't be wrong but I need a better explanation.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/10/2016 10:59

I presumed emotion icons?

No idea about emoji!

liquidrevolution · 19/10/2016 13:24
Hmm

I love it personally. Its my favourite thing about mumsnet.

I am off to save it as an image so I can use it on facebook. Grin

SallyR0se · 19/10/2016 13:30

Agree with pip. All the faces look the same to me! I've never really thought about them... The only thing I hate is a friend who often adds an uphappy face to the end of texts. It somehow, passive aggressively, implies that something I've done has caused her apparent unhappiness.

crashdoll · 19/10/2016 13:47

Haha, I loved this. Epic. Grin

Fucking bold fail. Hmm

DramaInPyjamas · 19/10/2016 13:50

Confused is my favourite MN emoji
I wish I could make my face do it irl

TanteRose · 19/10/2016 13:54

Emoji > emotion + moji (Japanese for letter/character/symbol)

TanteRose · 19/10/2016 13:57

Oh sorry not emotion!
e > picture + moji (letter)
Blush
And pronounced eh-moji, not ee-moji

Lweji · 19/10/2016 13:58

I use Hmm when I'm lost for words, here and in real life.

Or rather, when the words that come to my mind are best kept inside.

DramaInPyjamas · 19/10/2016 14:10

My mum pronounces them eye-mojis
She's an eye-diot Grin

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/10/2016 14:12

Hmm is great. Not as great as Biscuit, though... Grin

lasttimeround · 19/10/2016 14:34

It's my fave face. I wish I could quirk an eyebrow irl Hmm I'd do it all the time.
