Would you leave a 3 yr old asleep inside whilst you popped out to the shop for 5mins

Name Changed in view of possible flaming Blush

Would you do it? She sodding well fell asleep during Peter Rabbit (shes not being unreasonable, it's the same fucking storyline in every episode. A fox or a badger chase them) and I don't want to risk waking her up to go to the shops but I have to get something.^^ It's just us here and I can't see the harm if I'm back in five. Am I being stupid even thinking about it or....

What was it that you needed from the shop so urgently OP?

newlabelwriter · 18/10/2016 15:46

Out of interest what age do people think is okay to leave child for a very short while? My DS is nearly 9 and DD is 6. I was thinking of leaving them for 5 minutes at the weekend as raining and needed to go to cashpoint and DS quite responsible (well as responsible as a 9 year old can be) but I didn't as it didn't feel right even though am sure (although obviously not) they would be okay,

Mum popped out for 10 mins to get dad from work. House caught fire
Mum and dad came home 20 mins after she left us (cos it's never just 10 mins) as the fire brigade pulled up

Hmmm I wouldn't unless you can actually see house from the shop?

SplinteryBottom · 18/10/2016 17:04

Do you know your local shop keeper? Maybe worth getting to know them in case they'd pop as far as your front gate with whatever you need next time, if you're a good and local customer they might do it in an emergency.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 18/10/2016 17:07

No. I wouldn't. I think it's far too risky.

RedHelenB · 18/10/2016 17:13

Definitely not - she could wake up at any time and doesn't know she is being left

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 18/10/2016 17:58

Don't do it.

Grammar · 18/10/2016 18:06

I'll stick neck out here.

  1. Can you, on the basis of months worth of history, feel happy she will stay asleep for those 5 minutes?
  2. Where is the shop? Is it directly across the road? I don't think it is unreasonable if both of the above is right...anything else, then no. These situations depend on these aspects plus individual parenting risk assessment. Yes, you could always generate ghastly anecdotes and worst case scenario, but odds are, she will be fine, ....with the above caveat!
SoupDragon · 18/10/2016 18:26

You do all realise that the OP didn't do this don't you?
