To pay for DCS Men B vaccine from their savings?

My first AIBU. On maternity leave with DC3 at present so money is tighter than usual. We've cut back on spending but I do save £50/month each for the 2 older DC. I have booked for them to have the Meningitis B vaccine during the week, having been on the waiting list for a number of months. I just don't have the spare cash at present (£400). I was telling my Ddad today that we were going to get them and he asked the cost, and in passing told him I had to go to bank in person first to withdraw the funds from the DCS accounts. He made it clear he thought I was BU for going ahead with the jabs when we couldn't pay for them out of our own pocket and that at their ages (5 and 2) they wouldn't be at that much risk and that I was mad for dipping into their savings this way!! I was a bit put out tbh but said nothing but of course I've been feeling guilty all evening. I didnt have plans to put the money back btw.

Thanks all for the opinions. I forgot to say, the pharmacist told me that there has been 300,000 children vaccinated outside of the nhs programme so far (I assume in the UK), and that cases of Men B are down by 40%. Pretty amazing if true. And thanks to the poster who advised they may not be protected into teen years, I'll keep a close eye on the advice Flowers

Thanks for the heads up re the coupons, OP, as I just saved £19 and got double points too on our booster jabs just now.

I'll keep an eye on the advice re how long the jabs last too. If I need to pay for a further booster at some point I will.

We had both our children done at superdrug. We put it on our credit card because strictly speaking we cant afford it in one big bulk payment. We have two dogs - we pay to vaccinate them annually. Over the course of their lifetimes they will have cost us more in vaccinations than our kids - its not fair that many cannot afford to vaccinate their children when the PDSA helps people on low incomes vaccinate their dogs!! I think seen as though its not on the NHS there should be the option to pay in installments and private companies to make less profit but there you go, the worlds a crazy place
