To think the Ched Evans verdict shows why mob justice is wrong

Hundreds of thousands of people were willing Condemn a innocent man. He was practically forced out of football. This is why we can't play jury from our sofas.

Though if you want to talk about mob justice, I suggest you have a look at what the knuckledraggers are saying about the victim.

All these men who are saying 'Poor Ched', presumably if they're having some enthusiastic consenting sex with their partners they wouldn't mind poor Ched coming along and having a go as well. After all, it seems that if you consent to anyone, then you consent to Ched as well...

He was fopund guilty, not by a mob but in court.

She was too drunk to say no or give consent, thats rape, get over it.

Every Woman is a daughter, perhaps football fans should consider this before slut shaming

Exactly, BeyondPolkadots. So how did the jury conclude that he had reasonable belief in her consent?

Shocking jury decision. And that of the judge that led them down that path. And that off the appeal judges who thought that her prior history had any bearing on that act of penetration.

OP, fuck off! And when you get there fuck off some more.

Before this appeal I was able to refer to him as 'Ched Evans the Rapist' because he was convicted. Of rape. Therefore a rapist.

Now, because of today's appeal decision, am I allowed to refer to Ched as 'Ched Evans the former rapist?

Just asking.

Wow, misleading thread title. 50,000 Biscuit for you OP.

The person being discussed has had his previous conviction overturned after his girlfriend's rich daddy offered a reward to anyone who would be willing to trade their humanity for £££££. No doubt they'll be rewarded further by the witless mob denied seeing this person, who has not one miniscule iota of decency, kick a fucking ball around a patch of grass; as long as he kicks it in the vague direction of a net they'll be able to suppress the knowledge that he had sex with a vulnerable woman.

The later part of 2016 is turning out to be even more shit than usual for women.

We need:

Full enquiry now into the police and CPS decisions regarding this case.

A detailed report from the judge explaining the decision to allow this sort of evidence.

Full and frank lessons about consent in all schools.

I believe the victim Flowers

Topknob, I think you can certainly refer to him as Ched Evans, arrogant misogynistic cheating knob, who likes to go into hotels rooms where other people are having sex. Good ring to it.

My heart honestly sank when I heard this awful news.

It's all over social media now, poor man had his life ruined by this 'hag' was one choice quote. We are going backwards so fast and it's frightening and it worries me greatly how many women are buying into misogny too.

PortiaCastis · 14/10/2016 20:06

OP if it was your daughter you wouldn't be so bloody goady

It feels like, everywhere, the knuckledraggers are in the ascendant at the moment. The racists, the xenophobes, the misogynists and - yes - the rapists. We're careering backwards at a frightening pace.

Am I right that in slander/libel cases a firm belief in the veracity of what you are saying is a defense? I think it is in the States, not sure about Canada (where I am) or the UK.

So if I am happy to be strapped to a lie detector while I shout, "Ched Evans is a rapist" I should be fine... Any lawyers around?

WTF OP ? What "mob justice" He was convicted in a Court. When he came out he asked for his case to be reconsidered and was able (admittedly not straight away) to resume his playing career. Now he's been retried and acquitted, and is still playing. He hasn't lost his career and due process was followed in the legal proceedings. Which bit was "mob rule" again?

Report
wasonthelist · 14/10/2016 20:29

I accept today's verdict, but I am happy to condemn him for the things he has fully admitted he did.

The fact that what he and the other bloke got up to by their own accounts that night didn't at least amount to some kind of offence of assault or abuse just shows there is something defective about the law IMHO

OP fuck off to the far side of fuck then fuck off some more

This judgement is so depressing, money buys so called justice. I hope this scumbag falls of the face of the earth, and takes his clingon girlfriend with him

Topknob, how about "ched Evans who in my opinion is still a rapist"

Not defamatory if opinion, is it? I'm still going with "the rapist" though. I'd take my chances proving I reasonably believe it to be true in court Grin

What I'm finding staggering is the people who were so adamant that the previous verdict was wrong who now have 100% faith in the justice system to have got it right this time - how does that work?

And also the fact that "we weren't there so we don't know" brigade who are calling for her to be charged with false accusations. Which misses the point that she didn't accuse him; and also if "we weren't there so we don't know" means he should get to be home with his family then surely "we weren't there so we don't know" also means she should be home wiht her family?

I'm actually despairing at some of the people I have on my social media today. Normally sensible and decent people are coming out with all sorts of random shit. And most of them are women, which makes it seem so much worse.

"Ched Evans, whose girlfiriend's daddy's money stopped him being a rapist in the eyes of our stinking legal system"? A bit long winded, but it conveys the essence.

Nasty nasty thread. I've read a lot about this case and had no doubt the original conviction was unsafe. Jump off the band wagon and realise that just because the events were unsavoury didn't make them rape. And he's served time.

Report
BeyondPolkadots · 14/10/2016 20:53

People who don't know any better are just frustrating. But people who have actually read the original case transcript and think he is innocent of rape scare me, tbh.

So he has.

£50k buys a fair bit of, ahem, cough cough, "justice" though.

Report

No I'm still of the opinion he is an utter gobshite who doesn't give a shit about consent. He turned a taxi round on the basis of a text from his mate, lied to the hotel porter to get a pass key, asked his mate if he could "have a go" with a girl two witnesses had testified was insensible due to drink, then did a runner down the fire escape. But apparently she had sex with two other men (who may or may not have been offered 50 grand by Evans' fiancee, who defintely offered a large sum of money to the hotel porter, who, bless him, had the integrity not to change his story), so that meant his conviction was unsafe. Yeah, right. And I'm the Queen of fucking Sheba.

He is utter fucking scum.
