To think Board Games are a really poor quality these days

Over recent years we have bought several new versions of the old classics including Guess Who, Connect 4 etc. I'm sure they used to be much better made, solid and hardwaring. These new versions seem cheap and nasty. Can't even get the Guess Who characters to stay up, making the game pretty frustrating to play.

Second TheSnorkMaidenReturns - would add ticket to ride, Qwirkle, love letter - usual find them through table top.

Though have bought traditional games and been very disappointed with lack of quality - but more modern or usual games while not cheap do seem well made and are lasting in this house.

The new Operation is rubbish - not even a game anymore! Best just to get old versions from charity shops.

There are good unique board games out there, they just cost a bit more usually around £40.

Wil Wheaton has a youtube series, called Tabletop, where he plays many of these games. Some are suitable for children like Ticket to Ride and Sheriff of Nottingham while other games are more adult orientated like Dead of Winter which is a zombie game suitable for players age 12+

I love board games and there are lots of great new games out there but most are not suitable for small children.

Apart from the quality being shit, kerplunk keeps my children aged 3-7 perfectly happy and there is a real hole in that age range from newer game companies.

Bugs in the Kitchen is a great game.. not a traditional board game but ANYONE, toddlers up can play!

Really looking forward to Xmas day so we can play!

You need to buy proper board games (also called "designer board games").
Things such as:
Ticket to Ride
King of Tokyo
Dominion
Settlers of Catan
Machi Koro
Sheriff of Nottingham
Pandemic
Dixit
Seven Wonders
etc etc etc

The quality of the game pieces is often excellent, let alone the fact that they are actually fun to play.

There's also a YouTube channel for The Dice Tower which reviews hundreds of games, including family/childrens games. (because the presenter has about a zillion children)

I agree the quality board games are now for older children say 8+ my favourites

Ticket to Ride
Settlers of Catania
Carcassonne
Dixit

Dobble is a great card game my 4 year likes it.

I think we've moved away from the plastic games.
