(Posted on behalf of Dh) AIBU to be cross about the Lloyds advert

Dh has asked me to post this

The Lloyds advert has come on, the one where the horse is running through all the scenes.

He usually loves it. Tonight he is pissed off. The scene where the man is proposing to his boyfriend has been cut out.

Why?!

I know someone who worked on the programme. They got complaints about every edit. Some people complained about what was left out, and some about what was left in.

All ads for major brands kick off with a full length version to tell the story. Once the story is established they an show a range of shortened versions - all of which evoke the brand in the way the longer one did. It's obvious. It's "shorthand" - and as you pay for less time it is cheaper. They will run several different versions.

However if you want to make a homophobic point about it don't let facts get in the way.

2kids2dogsnosense · 11/10/2016 21:16

Can you ask them how many suspicious deaths are related to the making of the advert?

That would interest me, too noeuf

And how may people have died (possibly choking on crisps or cafe-au-alit ice cream) during or immediately after the transmission of this advert . . .

Soubriquet · 11/10/2016 21:19

I have asked about suspicious deaths.

No reply yet. I can imagine him sitting there like Hmm at the screen

Re homophobia. I wasn't accusing Lloyds of being homophobic. They wouldn't have done the advert in the first place if they were. But I didn't know if there have been so man complaints about that shot, that have caused them to withdraw the scene for an easier life

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 11/10/2016 21:23

Grin Maybe you should link this thread

Soubriquet · 11/10/2016 21:28

Hah! That would explain a lot for him wouldn't it

Definitely link him to the thread!

SouthWestmom · 11/10/2016 21:35

Oh bless him he's taken a h&s view and not a horse of death running past you a la Woman in Black view.

Maybe you could clarify ....

Soubriquet · 11/10/2016 21:37

I think he's scratching his head enough bless him.

I'll leave him be for now and try again tomorrow

More information about Lloyds horses from Horse and Hound if anyone's interested.

I rather like Stewart. By this time at night if someone questioned me about the horse of death I'd be wondering if I was in the start of a real life horror movie.

2kids2dogsnosense · 11/10/2016 22:23

I think this advert is like The Scottish Play - no-one dare speak about it. Stewart probably has a wife and family he is worried sick will be Cursed, and will choke on cafe-au-lait ice cream or crisps if he reveals the Secret of the Death Horse (or as perhaps it is safer to refer to it - The Equine of Extinction).

And for the record - it is a well-known fact that the Grim Reaper's own horse is called "Binky". I do not believe that Stewart doesn't know this. He is trying to dissemble in order to avoid bringing the curse down upon his own head and those of his loved ones. (I can't blame him.)

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 11/10/2016 22:52

I hope Stewart realises he is about to become an MN mascot. Does anyone remember the John Lewis (or somewhere) bloke who got a refund (or something) for an MNer through Twitter or FB (or something) and by the end we were all cheering for him?

Very clear on the details, me.

SirRodneyEffing · 12/10/2016 01:08

Hmmmm, do you work for lloyds? Is this thread a stealth attempt to plug their advert?

Grin
Soubriquet · 12/10/2016 08:16

No I don't work for them. Don't even have a bank account with them Grin

I did send him one more message trying to clarify but he is pretending I don't exist hasn't answered back. Think I scared him off

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 12/10/2016 08:36

Perhaps Stewart has somehow been alerted to the fact he may have become a small but rather perfectly formed MN star and has gone shy?

And quite right upthread, Death's horse is white. (And the Death of Rats is steedless, another crushing blow for 2kids).

brasty · 12/10/2016 08:41

Whenever this advert is on, I just always mutter to DP about the health and safety nightmare of a horse running through a hospital ward. DP humours me.

Rattledickie · 12/10/2016 08:49

I never noticed all the stuff in the ad, i just focus on the horseSmile

Ilovewillow · 12/10/2016 08:59

Lloyds and Stewart - amazing customer service in the face of adversity! Hysterical!

2kids2dogsnosense · 12/10/2016 14:32

the Death of Rats is steedless, another crushing blow for 2kids

I doubt I will ever recover rom the disappointment . . . Sad

RaspberryOverloadTheFirst · 12/10/2016 14:36

Soubriquet I've only just seen this thread, and was going to reply that I'd seen several versions, each with a different scene cut out, but it looks like that was your reply from Lloyds anyway Grin
