Seen an amazing deal for some used toys and want to buy them for DS, It is his birthday this weekend so could give them as a present but DH says it is wrong.
He can have them either way but it seems logical to me. We have bought him some presents already. Brand new.

I have a friend who wrapped up her childrens existing toys for Christmas and birthday until they were 3 (so stopped with 3rd birthday). She swears all they liked was the unwrapping- they lived in a tiny flat and had no room for clutter. They also got a balloon in a box but that was it. No additional clutter/junk.

I got DD a 2nd hand disney castle with accessories last year for $30. DH was so upset with me as were my inlaws until I sent everyone the link to buy new.... $450. The kids love that thing.

I buy a lot of 2nd hand clothes for my kids but find myself buying more new things as they get older. The baby is 6 months and as she is our third has not had a new outfit.

If your DH thinks this will mark your family as poor think again. DH and I have significant wealth and can afford to buy new but I refuse to waste my money. I also found that if a toy has survived one child it will probably survive mine. So many new toys fall apart in 5mins. Stuff I have bought 2nd hand has been indestructible.

SpringerS, that is an absolutely brilliant line!

I've also told him that Santa (who lives on the North Pole afterall) is a big environmentalist. So he has an elf department that specialises in revitalising toys that other girls and boys have finished playing with. And children who let him know they are happy with toys from this department might get some extra surprises.

Do it. Ds1 is obssessed with tractors, it's his birthday in 3 weeks and I bought him a massive second hand scale model farm for £30 New it would have cost me over £300. I can't wait to set it up with him he will be so excited!
