AIBU to expect a refund from this craft lady?

There is a craft lady who has a Facebook page. She does Christmas boxes (they're lovely) and I brought one from my son. She then showed me some of her other makes that are Christmas themed, so I could save on the postage (as these other bits were not being put up until November) so I thought that was nice of her.

Before anyone says Santa is naff, don't bother Grin we love Santa in this house! She had these 'milk for santa' things, that she specificity said she had made them, etc. They were £5. My stuff arrived, all fine.

About a week later, I go into a shop similar to Poundland (everything very cheap) there they were £1... I brought one just so I could compare it, so I was 100%.

It is the exact same thing.

I message her and tell her and she goes "yeah, so?" Hmm and she explains that I never specifically asked if she made it!? Yet she clearly sold it to me as "these handcrafted bottles", I didn't really see the need for me to then ask as she has already stated it!

AIBU to want a refund? Angry

How does she word this, on her FB page? Is there an online link for the pound land ones?
I would post a link to her FB page, a pretty scratching online view and an appropriate screenshot of her rude response.
If someone was advertising cakes they had made and I paid them for their services, I wouldn't expect to see the same cake in a supermarket. I can't see how this is massively different?

bloodyteenagers · 09/10/2016 18:46

Thought everyone knew these boxes - box with random seasonal shite - were filled from places like pound shops and discounts in supermarkets? That there's usually around a fivers worth of crap sold for at least a tenner. I say at least because if it's got glitter in that pushes the price up even more.

I mean look that the shite glasses that get sold. 50p/£1 max purchase. Shit loads of glitter, and sold on for a tenner. Even more for wonky writing.

You haven't been had. It's business, and people pay for these things rather than thinking hang on a minute, I could whizz round poundland, spend a fraction of the cost and do this myself.

user1471544305 · 09/10/2016 18:54

Suck it up if you had not if seen it header you would have been happy.

Kidnapped · 09/10/2016 18:58

Thanks, bloodyteenagers. No, I've not seen such stuff.

I've just casually had a look at my local Facebook selling page. Never done that before.

Dear God. The tat.

Some things cannot be unseen. Sad

I blame you lot for introducing me to it in the first place.

So all those of you leaving Santa alcohol are happy for him to drink and drive?!
And clatter around the next house like a drunken eejit?

Santa in my house was once so pissed he put a Xbox with the stocking on one kids bed and left the selection box under the tree

Kidnapped · 09/10/2016 19:09

And I am perhaps being picky here, but shouldn't it say Darren and Lisa (rather than Lisa and Darren) so that it aligns with the actual picture below it?

You know to preserve the integrity of the piece?

bloodyteenagers · 09/10/2016 19:19

The tat is so bad, but it's like a car crash sometimes. You know you shouldn't look but you just cannot help yourself. There's usually a thread a month somewhere on here that features the creme de la creme in Facebook tat.

I do feel sorry for some of the hand crafters. There are some truly, truly talented people out there. and the work they produce is fantastic, and of course the price reflects the time they have put into their creations. Then someone comes along and knocks out a badly spelt, wonky inspirational gift tag with some glitter chucked on, and people are gushing at it. And the talented ones are getting knocked down pages as more and more of the tat appears, and of course comments about too expensive...

ladygracie · 09/10/2016 19:31

Yes kidnapped, you are absolutely right. That is the only thing wrong with it!!

JenLindleyShitMom · 09/10/2016 19:39

Bought.

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips · 09/10/2016 20:01

YABU. Santa actually prefers a good measure of brandy, so they were a total waste of money.

expatinscotland · 09/10/2016 20:03

'Also email her and say "That's a pity. Had a big birthday party the other day and the Xmas box was out and loads of mum friends asked where they were from. Will tell them all to find someone honest to buy from instead. Hope you enjoy the £4 you made conning me - probably cost you £200 in sales. All the best." '

She's know that's bullshit. And she didn't con the OP. The OP was happy to pay a fiver for the bottle. She only became dissatisfied when she found out the bottle sells for £1 elsewhere.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 09/10/2016 20:10

Am I the only one who has bothered the read the OP.

"She had these 'milk for santa' things, that she specificity said she had made them, etc. They were £5."

YANBU to be really annoyed about this but there is no way you will get a refund. If it was on a selling page, make sure you put a message on there saying just what she is doing and copy in the admin. They probably won't be happy about her claiming they are handmade when she has done nothing towards making them.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 09/10/2016 20:13

Just seen it's her Facebook page, leave a review. Even if she deletes it some may see it first.

YuckYuckEwwww · 09/10/2016 20:14

if you read the whole thread, you'll see that the seller didn't, she called them "hand crafted" - which most of us know most things are least partially are even if it's bits added by hand in a factor. It's a bit like "using naturally derived ingredients" or "vintage style" - means nothing

the OP interpreted that as the seller "specifically saying she had made them"

YuckYuckEwwww · 09/10/2016 20:16

"factory"

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 09/10/2016 20:19

You've been had and I'd be very irritated, but I don't think you stand a chance of getting a refund.

Nothing to stop you warning others via your local facebook pages though, depending on what she says when you challenge her.

It sounds pretty obvious that she wanted you to think you were paying for something she'd made herself.

TheProblemOfSusan · 09/10/2016 20:20

I'm afraid you're all wrong, I have it on good authority from my mother that Father Christmas drinks a very stiff G&T with one ice cube and a slice of lemon.

He also enjoys mince pies but only the naice ones from Booths or homemade.

That's what I said! Grin

Kidnapped · 09/10/2016 20:38

Okay, I have finished looking on the local selling pages now.

My fave was:

Flymo lawnmower, 5 horsepower. Leaks fuel bad. £35.

DesolateWaist · 09/10/2016 20:44

Since when does British Santa get fucking milk, anyhow? Scottish Santa gets a dram of whisky and a mince pie.

He's Father Christmas in this house and he'll get what he's fucking given.

Doingthedo · 09/10/2016 20:48

I've found he can down a half pint of Bailey's with ease...

Yoarchie · 09/10/2016 20:49

Op you need to put this down to experience.

Don't buy stuff on Facebook again.

You have no right to a refund. The law is not interested in whether you got a good deal. The law is interested that you paid the agreed price for the agreed product and that is it unfortunately.

DesolateWaist · 09/10/2016 20:55

Can you either link to the description or screen shot it?

MapMyMum · 09/10/2016 21:14

Leave a review or post and comment on her pagr a lot saying how disappointed you are that they are not hand made and add a screenshoy of her message. That will severely affect her business

PaulAnkaTheDog · 09/10/2016 21:14

Can someone make a glass for Santa's wine for me? Santa likes a large wine.
