I was reading about this on DS and was interested in your views. Been a longtime lurker- decided to bite the bullet and join so please don't bully me

I know it seems obvious to say no but give explanations as to why you think not- it is obvious to say no but harder to explain why

I did give a reason: It's undemocratic.

As gamer said, I'm turning this on it's head and asking why anyone should ever have more than one vote? Surely if someone is coming up with such a bizarre proposition, it would be for them to to put forward an explanation for the idea in the first place.

AmeliaJack · 05/10/2016 19:54

No, it's not a good idea. And it's not hard to say why.

One person, one vote. Every adult in the country equally represented regards of wealth, education, social status, age, colour or creed.

Otherwise it's Orwells @we are all equal but some are more equal than others."

heavenlypink · 05/10/2016 19:54

I would like a "none of the above" option on the ballot paper! Wink

No. One demographic should not be given uneven weighting over another as positive discrimination.

I think it should be extended to 16 year olds, and hope it would encourage earlier engagement with voting.

BreatheDeep · 05/10/2016 19:56

If you want a debate you kinda need an opinion of your own... In order to debate it.

user1475682162 · 05/10/2016 19:56

It's because I saw it on a forum and thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss- I don't personally agree with it but was just interested. SmileCake

Plenty of people get two votes.

I work with elderly people/people with dementia. They get a postal vote but if they are unable/unwilling to vote one of their relatives does it for them.

The relative gets two votes.

flanjabelle · 05/10/2016 19:57

I think the basics were covered on that thread op. There is only one reason that is important. If one person gets two votes, but someone else only gets one, that is not a fair system. It doesn't work.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 05/10/2016 19:57

Also think it a ridiculous idea. Any govt who seriously considered it would be voted out... but everyone older than 24!

Glowstick's joke was not unreasonable: the young vote turnout for the EU referendum was lamentable.

CocktailQueen · 05/10/2016 19:57

No way. Undemocratic. One person, one vote.

user1475682162 · 05/10/2016 19:58

I think the idea is ludicrous and crazy as it is undemocratic and unfair but someone else brought it up on Another forum so wanted to see people's thoughts

Are you for it or against it

GiddyOnZackHunt · 05/10/2016 19:59

This is presumably to represent the idea that somebody young would be voting for more 'future' than an 80 year old.

GerdaLovesLili · 05/10/2016 20:00

No.

Do you also think that the vote of someone who has paid into the system for their whole working life, who has a lot of life experience is worth less?

bloodymaria · 05/10/2016 20:00

If it's a debate you want OP, you have to give some reasons why you think it's a good idea.

(Which it obviously isn't ffs)

BSkyB · 05/10/2016 20:00

Are you seriously not going to give us any context or background info? Just a random, obviously ridiculous proposal. That's not a debate. It's just weird.

palanca · 05/10/2016 20:02

I agree with glowstick - the "yoof" should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for not registering and then not voting - pathetic

SumAndSubstance · 05/10/2016 20:02

Are you for it or against it
I think that's been fairly obvious, OP!

BikeRunSki · 05/10/2016 20:02

because they are alive longer

So then they get to vote more as they get older.

PickAChew · 05/10/2016 20:03

Good grief, it's like being at school.Hmm

It's as stupid an idea as giving any other group 2 votes and hardly worthy of debate, miss.Biscuit

BreatheDeep · 05/10/2016 20:03

I'm still just as confused as to why this is a question, even on Digital Spy it seems it's just as random a question.

I stand by my original opinion - one person, one vote is the only fair way.

bloodymaria · 05/10/2016 20:04

give explanations as to why you think not- it is obvious to say no but harder to explain why

Are you asking us to do your homework for you? Hmm

user1475682162 · 05/10/2016 20:04

Why are you all seeking to be mean to me- I genuinely wanted to ask your opinion and instead I was called ridiculous and an idiot- thanks, at least I know not to comment
