Don't need such a big fucking car and should buy something else amd stop taking up most of the fucking road.

OP posts:
Philoslothy · 02/10/2016 17:40

That doesn't make sense philoslothy I too am working class and can no way afford to be a flash twat, or would I want to be one

We have just been lucky and can afford things that appear flash. People like me don't have nice things and so it is exciting to us. We are grateful beyond belief that we own our own home, we can put food on the table, take holidays and drive cars that we didn't even dare dream of.
People observing us note the fact that people like us don't usually have nice things and so we are written off as flash twats. I am too busy enjoying my nice things to be upset that others may choose to sneer at us for daring to have things that we consider nice - of course those people don't consider them to be nice because a common oik like me has them and they have to make clear that they are nothing like me.

Philoslothy · 02/10/2016 17:41

I was a teacher with a 4x4, I wasn't the only member of staff to drive that kind of car.

MaQueen · 02/10/2016 17:45

Nope, it's the parents pretty much.

TiggyD · 02/10/2016 17:52

But come a bit of snow 4x4 drivers are like the nation's guardian angels distributing food and love to those cut off. God bless you beautiful people!

scaryteacher · 02/10/2016 17:58

Dh used ours for towing his glider, and it was an LPG conversion, so green.

it was great for carting loads of logs, off roading, and essential in Belgium when it snows, and you have 4 wheel drive. It was also great protection against the madness of the Belgian drivers.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 02/10/2016 17:59

Self selecting group though of SAHPs and part time workers doing the school run. There is probably a partner with a better job and car (big 4x4) who never goes near the place.

Or possibly you are all spending your cash on tutoring. Grin

I must live in a car centric area, I don't know anyone wealthy who doesn't have a car that reflects their income. Mind you property is not expensive and good schools are free round here, if you have a decent job you have plenty of disposeable income.

honkinghaddock · 02/10/2016 18:39

You don't need a 4x4 in the snow. Winter tyres are all you need (and much cheaper).

originalmavis · 02/10/2016 18:43

Or a tractor.

limitedperiodonly · 02/10/2016 18:58

I used to live in Essex and knew my cars. But now I live in Central London and know nothing except buses and taxis. It sometimes snows here but never settles.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 02/10/2016 19:28

OP RR's are not the only wide cars on the road.

The Evoque and the Sport are not larger than most large family saloons.

The largest RR is big of course big plenty of other manufacturers make cars just as wide.

The upshot is you didn't criticise wide cars. You criticised RR specifically and made some pretty huge generalisations about their owners Hmm.

JacquesHammer · 02/10/2016 19:36

haddock I have nowhere to store a full set of tyres!

But yup. The oldies on my road LOVE it come the ice/snow when I can do runs out for them all.

DivaBeliever · 02/10/2016 19:40

I don't give a shit what car you drive OP, but you seem to really care that I drive a RR.

Thanks for caring😄

Madbengalmum · 02/10/2016 19:43

The observation that the most wealthy in the countryside drive estate cars and vws is,very true of where i live. The RR drivers locally tend to be the ones who lease cars and live on HP.

Blu · 02/10/2016 19:46

Hulababy - I think it has been about even., in terms of unpleasantness.

Some unpleasant stereotyping reverse snobbery, and some actual snobbery ( 'crappy cars', Berlingo-bashing) and admissions of only caring about the occupants of own cars.

Dinosauratemypudding · 02/10/2016 19:47

You're in the 10% then scary

OP posts:
Dinosauratemypudding · 02/10/2016 19:48

Or a good postman honking mine used to drive my car down the hill for in the snow.

OP posts:
Dinosauratemypudding · 02/10/2016 19:50

I have made no generalisations about any drivers eatshit.... except maybe the big exhausts small dicks.
It's rr inparticular as they're too flashy to be useful.

Yes you have OP - saying people who have RR's don't need them and can't drive properly.

Add then your last post....

The whole thread is designed to be goady.

Philoslothy · 02/10/2016 20:21

How do people know who has and hasn't leased a car? People on MN seem to know so much about other people's finances

EatsShitAndLeaves · 02/10/2016 20:27

Dunno Phil - same way some MNetters know everyone who drives a large 4x4, can't drive properly and doesn't need it (unless it's dirty of course)? Hmm

Shurelyshomemistake · 02/10/2016 20:32

I don't like them for 2 main reasons: they are dangerous for pedestrians and other drivers and ; they are effing butt-ugly: like mobile breezeblocks. So inelegant.

ohdearme1958 · 02/10/2016 20:35

My current car is a 6 month old RR. Its anything but flash. Its beautiful in an understated way. Its the best car Ive ever had and beats my previous one, a Mercedes Sl500, into the ground. None of my cars, or any of the other cars we own as a family have ever been leased or bought on instalments. Have I had trouble parking the RR? No I haven't because I've been driving for 38 years now and kind of have parking sussed out - but even if I didn't I could just press a couple of buttons, take my hand off the wheel, and let the car park itself.

What's with all the jumping to conclusions about people who lease cars? We lease our Land Rover LR4 for the convenience and the built-in service from the dealership, so for that reason it's much simpler to lease than own.

Re the snow, we do need such a car for the winter, as here in CT we're talking snowfalls in feet and not inches.
