Aibu to think I can refuse to watch a tv show

Dh's plan for tonight.
Watch episode of tv show 1 (his choice) then tv show 2 (his choice but one I like) then a dvd (undecided).
Rare evening home for dh. He's generally home at 11pm tonight he got in at 6.
I hate tv show 1. Can't stand it. Fucking hate it in fact I tried watching it for a whole season. Couldn't get my head around it. Didn't enjoy a minute of it and couldn't keep up. I ask dh if we can skip tv show 1. He whines, moans and has a bit of a sulk. I say OK then watch it alone I'll just go on mumsnet. Dh calms down, so we search for tv show 2 on Netflix, new season isn't up yet so we try to find it online, can't find a version that will run so I try to skip to a film. I leave him skipping through Netflix and go for a quick wee (damn you pregnancy) come back and find he's put something on, fair enough. I ask what it is, he just says oh you'll see. It doesn't become apparent so I ask again and he says it's called x, do I want to watch it? I said I dunno I haven't heard of it, but it's a bit late now it's on now. To which he turns off the play station and sulks off, claiming I've ruined his night as I won't watch ANYTHING he wants, only thing I said no to was tv show 1, aibu to think I shouldn't be forced to watch shit?
Semi lighthearted

Oh and I never said he couldn't watch it. He's welcome to. He just sulks if I play on my phone while we're meant to be watching it together so I let him know in advance I've no intention of watching it

You just described me and dp most nights. we like a lot of things in common but he insists on watching ncis all the time and it bores me to tears.
Out of nosiness what were the other shows?

MrsJayy · 27/09/2016 20:44

We rarely watch the same tv we have a few shows weare waiting on coming back. Atm he is watching parking wars then it will be some police thing im not really bothered

KatieScarlett · 27/09/2016 20:44

And that is why we have 2 sky boxes, individual fire sticks and our own i-gadgetry.
Blockbuster night used to be carnage. Worse than IKEA, even.

LBOCS2 · 27/09/2016 20:44

Yeah, DH enjoys Gotham a lot more than I do, so I watch it with my phone and he watches it with his eyes shut Hmm

For all that we're a compatible couple we have very little overlap in our tv watching habits.

Vvlgari · 27/09/2016 20:45

Why do you have to watch his show? DH watches a load of shit I can't abide like Fast and Loud but I just look at the computer or go and read. Likewise, there are shows I like that he doesn't so he does the same.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 27/09/2016 20:47

Seriously, go and watch something yourself now. Make the point that he is not the owner of the TV!

Vvlgari · 27/09/2016 20:47

Though the most annoying thing is when I'm watching something and it catches his interest so I have to explain who everyone is and the back story. Grin

Cocklodger · 27/09/2016 20:48

Vvlgari.
Your guess is as good as mine. He doesn't seem to get that we can watch TV on our own.
sigh

Try The Americans. It's seriously under rated.

MrsJayy · 27/09/2016 20:48

Its not worth getting het up about

SpaceUnicorn · 27/09/2016 20:50

Try The Americans. It's seriously under rated

This is my current OBSESSION! I'm impatiently waiting for DH to get in so we can finish off season 2 tonight Grin

pointythings · 27/09/2016 20:52

At least your DH watches a show. With a plot. Mine just watches:
Man Vs Food
Guy Fucking Fieri (I know his show isn't called that, it's how I feel)
You Gotta Eat Here
How it's made
Food Factory
Ancient Alien conspiracy bullshit

I've now got him to a max of 2 consecutive episodes of any one thing, no How It's Made and Food Factory unless I am not in the room and actual Netflix - he likes Archer (which I think is hilarious) and a show called iZombie, which I also like. But OMG the shite he picks.

I on the other hand am utterly saintly Halo because I watch the stuff he hates (The Apprentice) after he has gone to bed so he doesn't have to have it on in the background. Also tend not to watch too much TV because too busy on MN

AGenie · 27/09/2016 20:54

The only thing we watch together is bake off. You are not alone.

MrsJayy · 27/09/2016 20:55

pointythings my Dds watch all those shows (except ancient aliens) they do my head in man v food is gross so much food and greed

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 27/09/2016 20:56

cocklodger. Am so with you! Ex was obsessed with Gotham! What a pile of utter shite! Haaaaaaated it! Was also a huge fan of Salvage Hunters. Drew Pritchard. The most uncharismatic man to ever appear on TV (I liked the dog, though)

NothingIsOK · 27/09/2016 20:58

Gotham is unwatchable. I tried really hard and lasted about four episodes before we both decided it was beyond hope. Yanbu.

NovemberInDailyFailLand · 27/09/2016 21:01

Agree re: Gotham. Once upon a Time slightly better due to hot men, but I still can't work out what the jiggins is going on.

Vvlgari · 27/09/2016 21:04

DH tried hard with Gotham and decided it was awful and he generally enjoys that kind of thing. He loves TWD which I just could not get on with, but I loved Breaking Bad which he hated.

donajimena · 27/09/2016 21:05

My partner loves the TV. I can take it or leave it and often don't switch it on when he's not staying over.
But.. he gets very offended if I don't watch his shows. I just don't get it..

MrsJayy · 27/09/2016 21:13

Now its some police programme that i thought was on last night but it was on a different channel apparently they all look the bloody same.

Bluebolt · 27/09/2016 21:20

We have our own shows and some overlapping but he has an annoying habit of getting into my shows after a while and I either get constant questions or he will watch the earlier seasons and again ask constant questions if I answer I spoil the plot. He has the choice early evening as he starts work early I get later when he's in bed and weekends don't get to see much tv.

GabsAlot · 27/09/2016 21:26

i think youre married to my dh

when hes off work its his tv-we do like some of the same shows and enjoy them but he also likes some real shit which as i speak is on now and i just come on here

Quimby · 27/09/2016 21:27

Gotham is fucking terrible

And I'm obsessed with batman

EverySongbirdSays · 27/09/2016 21:29

Gotham IS shite YANBU

Had it been Game Of Thrones you'd be seriously in the wrong! Grin
