People eating food they haven't paid for....

....It just really bugs me. To the point of utter revulsion.
In a supermarket, grown adults opening a pack of 4 pork pies and happily munching their way around the shop, only to toss the empty pack to be scanned as their shopping goes through. Why do people do that, have you ever, and why??? (DD had to wait until the car for her gingerbreadman biscuit from Waitrose).

MrsDeVere, hazey, please help me, I'm trapped in a parallel universe where the most despicable crime anyone can commit is eating a pork pie in Tesco before you pay for it Sad

" no Chavs in M&S fortunately. "

no just total wankers it seems Grin

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 25/09/2016 17:48

No wonder some children don't know how to behave, in public or elsewhere, if this is the example they are shown.

Phalenopsisgirl · 25/09/2016 17:49

That this is wrong has been so drummed into me by my parents as a child that if I did need, say a tissue to wipe my nose, I would sniff my way to the tills, purchase the tissues before opening them and returning to complete my shop. Hell would freeze over before I ate something prior to paying for it.

Laquila · 25/09/2016 17:51

MerchantofVenice I think you're in the wrong place here, with your calmly reasoned arguments and logical thought processes.

strawberrybootlace · 25/09/2016 17:53

I do think it feels like borderline stealing and is maybe a bit entitled somehow (diabetics, pregnant people aside). But not close enough to stealing for me to get worked up about. Definitely different to restaurants IMO.

I used to buy the dc something to eat distract them on the way in and shop as quickly as possible.

BabyGanoush · 25/09/2016 17:56

Seen so many people munch something, then leave the packaging on the shelf.

"No wonder some children don't know how to behave, in public or elsewhere, if this is the example they are shown."

This is what might politely be called a bit of a leap. If you think that the Yoof of Today's problems are down to people in Sainos opening the breadsticks before they've been through the checkouts then with all due respect, I think you might be misunderstanding, well, everything.

weeccsaltire · 25/09/2016 17:59

My local Tesco provide fruit for free for the kids to help keep the kids happy and the parents shop more.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/09/2016 17:59

They are just trying to create a smokescreen to hide their shame.

Oh my goodness

hazeyjane · 25/09/2016 18:16

Thats me, always creating a smoke screen (with a Lambert and Butler 'borrowed' from the cigarette kiosk) to hide the shame of minding my own business walking around the supermarket with a dc occasionally eating a carrot or a cookie.....I'm a dark and shadowy figure in my town.

MissHoolie - you are welcome in my lovely friendly Waitrose anytime, although I warn you, according to this thread it is a shameful den of pre obese, badly behaved children munching on chocolate mini men, while their feckless mothers swig from bottles of Prosecco and scrawl in Cath Kidston notebooks without paying for them.

MerchantofVenice · 25/09/2016 18:21

Is it also 'rank' to partake of the little free samples they offer in supermarkets, I wonder? What is so rank/disgusting (take your pick) about, ummm, eating in a place full of food? Are we suddenly freaked out by crumbs? Do you people feel violated by people having a coffee and Danish in a work meeting? Do you have to duck outside to puke?

I can sort of understand the outrage if it's been drummed into as some sort of quasi-religious imperative, or if you're firmly of the 'Children must be seen and not heard' persuasion. But what the hell is all this imaginary horror at the actual scientific realities of of the situation? It's a place that sells food. You might eat some of the food. Someone will (presumably) sweep up any toxic crumbs at some point each day (unless it's a really nasty joint)... so what are you people talking about?? What is disgusting? ? Is eating at the park disgusting too? I need to know.

Brilliant merchantofvenice- totally Smile

I find this thread hilarious. I never knew how my daughter chomping on a bit of baguette I broke off might upset so many people?!

There are far far worse things I see in the supermarket. Oh well we must be 'chavs' Shock

PacificDogwod · 25/09/2016 18:35

Well, at least some posters have recognised that there seems to be a pattern to maddie's strongly held opinions Grin

LineyReborn · 25/09/2016 18:38

I might be pushing a small hostess drinks trolley round Asda tomorrow, having an early snifter of my gin and bitter lemon whilst I shop and pay.

Huldra · 25/09/2016 18:38

If it irritates you that much then look away, unless you're stalking them around the store.

Our Tesco have a bowl thing of free fruit for kids to eat on the way around.

MissHooliesCardigan · 25/09/2016 18:38

Shadowboy Don't minimise things. It doesn't 'upset' people, it fills them with 'utter revulsion'. Don't you CARE about that???!!!!!!!!!?????!!!!!!!!!

Yeah. You must be. Best accept it.

EastMidsMummy · 25/09/2016 18:42

It's vulgar and uncouth. Eating in a shop. Just wait ten minutes.

MerchantofVenice · 25/09/2016 18:44

poppy

Get. A. Life.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 25/09/2016 18:45

At least it might some of the perps food for thought when they next amble around Asda.
Lol

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 25/09/2016 18:46
