I know, this is what everyone says. Ridiculous thing is, i was only trying to support someone else - and then an increasing number of "Oldies" piled in (I've been here for as long as most of them but less in your face).

This has happened a few times, and I've finally decided enough is enough. I have found other places for support and that's where I'll go. Still makes me sad though as I really could have done with some support over here. Bye everyone!

MN is a funny place... it depends who is on at a particular time, I think. I've seen threads where a user is ripped to pieces or 100% supported with loads and loads of pages and then an incredibly similar thread which gets nothing except a couple of yawns and the posters disagreeing with the trend set by the previous similar thread.

Maybe the dog lovers/angry with school/mn vipers/etc/etc all clock on and off at the same times!

I have gnashed my teeth at threads where posters seem to focus in on a particular detail and won't be distracted from it. I have started threads where a poster has misunderstood or incorrectly interpreted something, and all the ones following keep on that vein, and it's just wrong or trivial, but can't correct it without sounding like you're not 'hearing' the advice or outing yourself.

I've also had fantastic advice or support.

I've had a user name which has attracted a gazillion biscuits, and been told what an awful person I am.
I've had a user name where I've been told I'm obviously a lovely person (guess which one of those I preferred!)

MN is amazing and funny. Sometimes also wrong and/or judgemental (actually, def judgemental, esp AIBU)

Sorry you feel you have to leave, OP. Flowers to those who remain, nasty or nice.

Is it me, or is Lady Olivia of MN sounding a little Yoda-esque this evening?

OverAndAbove · 23/09/2016 23:56

I don't get it. Are all new users just numbers now? That seems odd!

TrippyMcTrapFace · 24/09/2016 00:01

I'm confused.

IamtheZombie · 24/09/2016 00:02

Sigh. The OP obviously changed her name to user9876543210. That 'name' is NOT in the format of the newly registered assigned names so there's been no re-regging involved..

PresidentOlivia, could you explain to Zombie what an "Exercise Based Event" is? The concept is alien to her.

blinkowl · 24/09/2016 00:16

I think the User87236874263 names are newbies on the app, is that right?

Dreamfoil · 24/09/2016 00:34

Zombie I've been to before but it was the nineties...

PortiaCastis · 24/09/2016 00:43

user I apologise once again but don't derigister. Ask for your old name back and they may give it too you.
Everyone else this poster is not a new user. I stuck my big foot in it and upset her.

RJnomore1 · 24/09/2016 00:43

Zombie is that the wrong number of digits for a new reg then?

All the MN assigned usernumbers begin with 147 and are 10 digits long. Or they did. But not the digits from 0 - 9 in reverse order. The number of digits is correct but the rest? Nope.

IamtheZombie · 24/09/2016 01:01

Oh, and it's far too late to start the discussion of whether 0 is a digit or a place marker.

Zombie is off to her grave for the rest of the night.

RJnomore1 · 24/09/2016 01:04

Sorry sorry!

I must be more sceptical eh

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/09/2016 03:32

Don't go OP. You were trying to help but all got a bit emotional. Stay.

OverAndAbove · 24/09/2016 07:55

Ohhh I STILL don't get it stamps foot

So if I try and change my name, I'll be given a number instead? I really wanted to get a new one, something seasonal. Pah!

I have seen a lot of posts by user14##### and thought it was one person who had totally thrown themselves into the site. Doh!

On the other hand, I do know what an exercise based event is preens feathers I am considering training for one in January but I cba to get out of bed this morning

I'm doing one of those mud runs. It was a good idea at the time... just looked at the website (usual hq disclaimers apply) and feel a bit scared now.

Ego147 · 24/09/2016 08:09

Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about

Something worth remembering in here.

But yes, be careful what you give. MN can be a great place but there are some people who are often forget there are real people behind the screen.

RJnomore1 · 24/09/2016 08:09

Ooh I did one of those in the summer Olivia. It was really hard but I enjoyed it a whole lot more than I had expected.

StrongBelwas · 24/09/2016 08:46

My nephews play that ROBLOX game and it gives user names like exoticblahblah and tropicalblahblah. Maybe MN could use a similar system of weirdly inappropriate words before new usernames instead of user?

Crystal15 · 24/09/2016 09:03

I wouldn't let anybody on Mumsnet upset me. It's not like school hmmm. I couldn't tell you who is a popular member and who isn't, as I don't really care. I just chat away and that's that.

user1473454752 · 24/09/2016 11:22

Expat its not nice being called user either trust me!
