AIBU?

'forgot' to pay me....

Got my pay slip (monthly) today to find due to a massive cock-up on their part, they will be under paying me by £600 tomorrow. I've been told there's nothing they can do and i'll have to wait till next pay day for it to be paid. No compassion what so ever.

AIBU to want to cause hell over this. I refuse to be without half my pay for another 4 weeks! I won't be able to afford to live. Apparently is it the norm for people to wait till their next pay day, even when it's their fault. Norm for them maybe! Is it actually normal to wait?

Then I would suggest you turn up for exactly half your hours next money.
Seriously though, that's outrageous.

Completely unreasonable of the company. If they refuse tell them you'll be charging them all the charges you'll have for your late payments on bills and overdraft etc!

What a load of rubbish or course they can pay it. I suspect they mean they can't run it through payroll as they have completed the payroll and submitted to HMRC which is now a requirement monthly. They can simply run it through payroll next month but pay as an advance to you now. They can simply manually calculate the remaining deductions for PAYE and NI! With faster payments you can have the money same day!

No it's not the norm. I work for the NHS and this has happened to me before, they paid the missing money in through BACS and it was there after 5 that day.

I do this all day every day at work. A bacs transfer will be in your account 3 days after it is actioned. Its vosts about 6p to do so they are at it!

I had a county council do this to me (and many others) We had to get statements from our banks confirming that the lack of payment had put us into overdraft. They paid the interest on the overdraft. In hindsight they would have been better making emergency payments, but I know many people didn't want to hassle their banks and just took the loss.

This happened to me, a BACS payment was made.

They can do it. They can:
Write a cheque
Do a Bacs transfer
Put through an emergency payment of £600 which they then deduct from the next paycheck that the additional £600 will be in
Access cash and give you it as an extraordinary petty cash payment if all else fails
They don't want to because it is hassle for them but they absolutely can do it and you need to make a fuss, see HR, the MD, speak to your union or whatever.

This happened to me too a long time ago so things might've changed but then I was given a cheque and a letter from the company (local council) to the bank and they put the cheque through as cash.

Is it for your normal wages or is overtime included in that? I was aware that only basic pay actually had to be paid, any allowances, expenses and overtime legally can wait until the following month!

This happened when someone I supervised told payroll the wrong person had stopped work (they both had the same name). It was the NHS and I the payment went through two days late - it would have been one day but we didn't realise early enough the next day. We also asked her for details of any additional charges incurred that needed to be reimbursed. It wouldn't have occurred to anyone to do otherwise. I was mortified.

Who's saying they can't do anything?

It's basic pay- well I had holidays in for some of the days and they didnt pay them.

I feel far more confident to fight them for it now. When you're so used to fighting to be paid, it's difficult to know if they are shit or if it's normal! Very tempted to tell them il 'forget' to work a whole shift but don't think it'd go down well!

It's not the first time they've done this to me, wasnt so much last time so I could wait. My boss just laughed when I told him as payroll mess up half the teams pay each month Angry

Gazelda- boss laughed said what do I expect. I called payroll and they said as its already processed I'll have to wait to next pay day now.

They probably cannot rerun the payroll due to immediate reporting requirements

However, they could offer you a payment to tide you over until next pay period

"payroll mess up half the teams pay each month"

Best of brit management then by the look of it;(

Put your foot down with them and don't let them give you any more bullshit !

Course if it was your boss or a director then they'd be hell to pay of course:!

I'm pretty sure that's illegal. Is this just a small form or a larger outfit can you say?.

Just sounds like we don't want to pay you bollocks!

That's bull shit. If it was £50 or something, they could get away with it, but £600 is too much!

They can pay you the additional monies before you get paid again, and record it on your next payslip. I've worked for companies which have done this. If they say they can't, they're taking the piss.

Our work prefer you to wait but can make an emergency payment.

Happened to me once. I was paid by the lunchtime that same day.

Unfortunately this has happened to me 7 times in the past 10 months (currently looking for a new job!!). Each time the company ignored my attempts to rectify it, then got annoyed with me and have labelled me a trouble maker :( they even made me justify my outgoing expenses as to why I needed the money paid!!! Not once have they apologised. I have however pushed each time to be paid asap and they have usually, reluctantly and with a lot of fanfare, paid me a few days after I eventually got a response. Not fair, not ethical and not good business practice.

I would ensure they paid you by a separate bank transfer asap.

Report
Justaboy · 22/09/2016 20:38

Chilver I bet there're having some cash flow problems somewhere with that sort of practice.

Sounds like a dodgy outfit anyway!

They are being ridiculous - they just process it as a cash advance and sort out the payroll side of things with the next pay date.

WTAF?

I'd have told them to do one. NONE of their business.

OP

They COULD run another payroll to fix the fuck ups, but it would cost them. They CAN pay you with a trf then do the accounting internally. 2 min job.
They are OBLIGED to pay you.

I've heard about this happening to several people over the years. And the companies do the same thing. I've always been utterly go smacked.

The very least they can do is advance you £600 until they make the proper correction for their fuckup next month!
