to wish the changes on tax credits had of gone through

They would of affected 1/5th of people on tax credits and that would of caused some issues in the short term so maybe some more help to transition was needed. But since that tax credits sad face woman on question time that was claiming them to run a salon in her lounge they u turned.

This has just resulted in cuts from other areas and not stopped the cuts at all.

Tax credits and housing benefit maybe a good idea for people in the short term. But many people are being long term subsidised and the main beneficiaries are the employers who get away with paying less and making more profits.

I'll probably get flamed for this but how can this country carry on racking up the debt? Its just going to create a greater financial burden on the future generations.

Tax credits have been reformed in the form of Universal Credit that has rolled out across the country and is applied to new or claimants with a change in circumstances who were or would have previously claimed tax credits.

PortiaCastis · 26/09/2016 19:08

Universal credit has been delayed

I've been googling all day and I can't for the life of me find out how to get our money back from these bastards! Any ideas? £2500 they took from his wages, wrongly. That's a massive amount of money and I want it back.

PrincessHairyMclary · 26/09/2016 19:12

Universal credit has been rolled out in my area already and lots of people are struggling

Pisssssedofff · 26/09/2016 19:12

They took money from his wages ? I've never heard of that are you sure it wasn't the tax department ?

Pisssssedofff · 26/09/2016 19:13

Universal isn't for people with kids is it ? Or working 16 hours

ayeokthen · 26/09/2016 19:16

Pisssssedofff nope, it was tax credits insisting there was overpayments from previous years. We obviously contested it, but they didn't care and because we refused to pay they organised to remove it from his wages through his employer. Just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't happen, I'm not thick, I can understand which government department a letter comes from.

PortiaCastis · 26/09/2016 19:20

Citizens advice bureau aye or try HMRC or write to MP

Twitter is brilliant for shaming so @Concentrix is their twitter account or try fb. Publicly naming and shaming is not liked Grin

PrincessHairyMclary · 26/09/2016 19:21

universal credit is instead of child/work tax credits, income support and housing benefit anda few other and is regardless of the number of hours.

I'm dreading my circumstances changing as I'll be screwed despite the fact I own my own home, work 30 hours a week (term time) and have only 1 child.

ayeokthen · 26/09/2016 19:24

PortiaCastis thanks! Ooh I do love a good Twitter shaming, they don't like it do they? I honestly wouldn't mind if we weren't entitled to them or they had taken the money because it was owed, but to know we've been deliberately fucked over when we try so hard has given me the absolute rage!!

PortiaCastis · 26/09/2016 19:25

Universal hasn't reached here yet but dd is 18 next month so I lose lose lose

PortiaCastis · 26/09/2016 19:27

No probs aye

Pisssssedofff · 26/09/2016 19:43

Was thinking the money taken might be for something else because according to This :
revenuebenefits.org.uk/tax-credits/guidance/how-to-deal-with-hmrc/dealing-with-debt/
They change the tax code not recover the money

ayeokthen · 26/09/2016 19:44

The letters all state it's for a tax credit over payment (which never happened!!!) and that it was tax credits taking the money.

Pisssssedofff · 26/09/2016 19:51

Well the number is in that link for the people you need to speak to

Pisssssedofff · 26/09/2016 19:51

You're welcome

ayeokthen · 26/09/2016 19:56

Pisssssedofff thank you, I'll call them tomorrow morning.

Pisssssedofff · 26/09/2016 20:03

PortiaCastis · 27/09/2016 17:56

aye any progress made today?

ayeokthen · 27/09/2016 18:12

Thanks for asking Portia they weren't interested on the phone but I've spoken to my local MP (amazing woman!) who is taking on Concentrix and also involved the CAB. Fingers crossed and thanks for all the info! How are you doing? Also thanks Pissssed

PortiaCastis · 27/09/2016 18:21

I'm ok thanks aye well at least your MP is on the case. You may get somewhere and Good Luck

ayeokthen · 27/09/2016 18:26

Glad to hear you're ok Portia it sounds like you've had a really shit time recently, hopefully things are looking up. Our local MP is great, I don't known why I didn't think of her before.

PortiaCastis · 27/09/2016 18:31

Yes aye that's why this thread has annoyed me so much. Ah well ivory towers always crumble.
I really hope a newspaper picks up on this because it will show the human cost of a shit government

ayeokthen · 27/09/2016 18:33

I completely understand why it's pissed you off so much, unless you've been in the position where you have been fucked over you can't possibly understand how bloody hard it is! I wish a newspaper would, but unfortunately they don't give a shit about the human cost of anything Angry

PortiaCastis · 27/09/2016 20:30

Yes you're right aye people will never understand what's it's like to be lumbered with a mortgage and bills on your own.
