...to expect people to use their indicators?

Why oh why oh why oh why do people not bother to indicate any more?

It drives me absolutely stark raving bonkers when I am driving and the person in front stops unexpectedly and then indicates. Do they not remember "mirror signal manoeuvre"?

Or at roundabouts. Am I supposed to guess which exit they are taking? I spend all my time saying "oh you're going that way are you?"

Or on dual carriageways. I want to overtake, I check behind me, indicate and then pull out. At exactly the same time as the car behind me who isn't indicating decides to pull out...

I haven't been involved in an accident yet, but the way I see people driving, I don't think it will be long...

I'm not perfect, I know that, but I do use my indicators in the correct manner.

I think people should be retested every 5-10 years to ensure they HAVE A BLOODY CLUE. And bear in mind I took 5 tests before I passed on my 6th attempt, failed every time because of nerves, so really would not relish taking another one. But I would do it, for the sake of road safety...

rant over!

Ah,come to Turkey where braking, indicating, seatbelts, headlights and less than 12 in a car are considered amusing oddities.

As for horses..I will pay attention to overbearing women in Puffa jackets making those irritating arm movements when the horse starts paying road tax. In the meantime, gerrover, I'm coming though-and fast.

McDreamy · 04/02/2007 16:09

Ahhh Moondog I was just about to write "you want ot come to Cyprus where indicators, seatbelts, childseats are all fashion accessories. Giving way doesn't apply if the oncoming car is a blonde British woman and NEVER say thank you" I love driving out here!!

moondog · 04/02/2007 16:10

lol
I would be most at home then!

bundle · 04/02/2007 16:10

there is a name for people who don't use their indicators: men

Freckle · 04/02/2007 16:13

And horses were here before cars. Hence the phrase "horse power".

moondog · 04/02/2007 16:14

Hmmm, well yes,and when they start payiong for roads to be asphalted I shall defer to them most happily.

Freckle · 04/02/2007 16:16

I think horses would actually be happier if the roads weren't asphalted. It's the humans who put that there.

And if horses have to pay road tax, shouldn't also cyclists and pedestrians??

moondog · 04/02/2007 16:18

Cyclists yes!
Pedestrians err.....no because last time I looked most don't use the road.

Bloody horses.

LittleBoSheep · 04/02/2007 16:25

LOL Moondog.

Personally I always defer to the horses as I know what they can do to my car if startled - they are quite scarey animals. Mind you not as scarey as the women who ride them (sheepey lights fuse and ducks!)

suedonim · 04/02/2007 16:32

Hehehe, Moondog! When I was back in the UK at Xmas I was amazed to see cars stopping at red lights, giving way at roundabouts and even driving on the correct side of the dual carriageways.

McDreamy · 04/02/2007 16:39

Stopping at a red light? What's that all about The cyps have this edging thing at red lights where they just inch more and more forward before the lights go green, even articulated lorries do it, great for blocking road junctions but they don't seem to care!

edam · 04/02/2007 16:43

Oh, I agree Emsie. Nearly had a prang today when someone turned right at a roundabout without indicating.

But my driving instructor is very strict about only indicating when there is another car or road user around - apparently if you just indicate without looking, it counts as a fault on your test.

McDreamy · 04/02/2007 16:45

My driving instructor taught me that too Edam and that was 18 years ago - unnessecary indicating, you ahould be aware of what traffic is around you was her argument.

Yup, that's what my guy says. Although have to admit I'm still at the stage where it's hard to stop indicating right when I want to pull off at a roundabout because I'm trying to do so many other things at the same time! But I am in a driving school car so I hope other drivers realise I'm nowhere near perfect...

tirnanog · 04/02/2007 16:52

The Cypriots sound a lot like us Irish!

McDreamy · 04/02/2007 16:52

Do you edge?

tirnanog · 04/02/2007 16:55

Yes

tirnanog · 04/02/2007 16:55

but everyone does!

McDreamy · 04/02/2007 16:57

but it's catching I am coming back to the UK in a couple of weeks and I must remember NOT to do it!!!

tirnanog · 04/02/2007 16:58

It's a lot more relaxed here.

tirnanog · 04/02/2007 16:59

-or lawlesss!!!

I always reverse INTO my drive so I can drive out but it does surprise me how many people do it the other way round - talk about making life difficult for yourself.

I thought it was an offence to reverse ONTO a road?

RustyBear · 04/02/2007 19:32

It is.
