Stone circle has reminded me. Years ago we went to Cornwall on holiday and spent most of the time checking out stone circles. Some were pretty hard to get to, and quite a challenge to 'do'. There was one, I forget the name of it entirely, but it was right by the sea. We set off and as we got closer it got foggier and foggier - we're from the Vale of York where fog is default setting some winters, so totally unfazed by it, usually. But this got so bad you couldn't have seen your hand in front of your face. So it even surprised us.
We were driving down this tiny country lane, crawling along at about 1 MPH, thinking we'd never find this circle. Then stumbled on the sign for it.
The kids were all scared and wanted to stay in the car. So we left them whilst we went into the field. Literally the second we got to the circle, the fog lifted. Just enough for us to see round the circle and a bit beyond. We were shocked to see there was a steep cliff very nearby - we'd had no idea we were even that close to the sea. That's how bad visibility was.
Anyway, we walked round the circle where, there was no fog, had a good look round and then suddenly, the fog descended on us again. My husband who isn't remotely 'woo' in his conversation, despite having had a few paranormal experiences, just said "I think they want us to go now." Which was more shocking, coming from him, than anything. So we left.
It was the middle of the afternoon and that week with the hottest day in a century or something.
We were camping and one night whilst we were all in the tent, husband stayed in the car for ages. I thought he was just listening to the radio. After, he told me he had been 'frozen' in panic and fear - he thought there was something malevolent outside the car and he literally couldn't move from the spot. We teased him about the 'piskies' coming to get him for ages, afterwards.
We had another weird experience on that holiday, going to look at Madron Well. You have to walk through some woods (that look like Fangorn Forest - really creepy trees) for about ten minutes to get to the site of a pagan holy well. The trees and everything round is (or was, in those days) covered in ribbons and little offerings. It's a magical place. We went right through the wood and on a bit further, and in the deepest part of the wood saw this man, kind of hippy-looking, indeterminate middle age, Jesus beard, etc. He just caught our eye and smiled and nodded, kind of thing. He looked very peaceful. We just thought it was standard issue hippy and gave him no more thought.
IIRC there was only one path through this lengthy(ish) wood, or only one we could see. We turned round, eventually, and walked back out to the car park. And there was the man again, smiling and acknowledging us. We thought he couldn't possibly have got there without passing us in the wood, again, but we had passed nobody on our way back out...
