Once a cheater always a cheater, he ditched his wife to shag the other host on American bake off. He's not the type of person that should be involved in a family show.

Heres hoping for Jamie

Not convinced it'll survive. I think the production company have really shot themselves in the foot asking for so much more money. It'll fizzle out painfully without Mel and Sue (have Mary and Paul even said whether they'll do it?) The show is so much more than just its basic format. Off the top of my head I'm struggling to think of anyone who could take Mel and Sue's places. But please not Jamie Oliver on there. I like some of his recipes but I cannot watch him, he annoys me so much.

redshoeblueshoe · 14/09/2016 08:57

Why would PH or MB leave ? They are bound to be offered a massive pay rise.

RepentAtLeisure · 14/09/2016 08:57

He doesn't seem the type to walk out on a paying job. Don't be surprised if he ends up the last cast member standing. His thing of 'bread and blue eyes' (sounds like yet another blog!) only really goes so far, unless the BBC can promise him another baking show.

EdmundCleverClogs · 14/09/2016 09:04

I usually give things a chance, despite nay-sayers. However, GBBO is a result of a perfect storm. Baking for an hour, with no melodrama and ott competition? It shouldn't have become as popular as it did. The reason it's worked is the people involved in the presenting and judging. They all bring a unique 'something', without taking away from the others or the contestants. I love Jo Brand, but there's very little guarantee of the same dynamic that made the original format so addictive.

That includes Paul - his personal life is his own, and quite frankly what was said in the op is disrespectful to him and his wife.

EdmundCleverClogs · 14/09/2016 09:07

As for Jamie Oliver - please, God no! It's got to the point South Park are taking the piss out of that cretin, internationally known as a prat. Wouldn't help to sell it abroad would it?

anonymousbird · 14/09/2016 09:10

Am gutted, I adore my hour of chuckling with the fab four on a Wednesday. Not sure I would watch it with other presenters, as they make it for me.

Love M & S's statement yesterday, witty and quite cutting!

Sad
mouldycheesefan · 14/09/2016 09:14

Major clusterfuck at channel 4, the presenters were not locked in to the contract so if they leave then channel 4 basically has a programme about baking which they could have started anyway without investing£25m in it.
Very stupid to pay that amount of money.

I love the tent and bag of flour comment, it's true.

paranormalish · 14/09/2016 09:23

Looks to me like Channeal four has spent 75M on a large tent and a few fully equipped workstations. I love watching the GBBO with MrsPara but thare is no way I am sitting through adverts. GBBO is soooo BBC it will be a flop elsewhere. It is Top gear all over again.

LemonBreeland · 14/09/2016 09:25

Not a chance it would be Ant & Dec, they are tied into a very lucrative contract with ITV. Jamie Oliver? Hell no!! My worst nightmare. Bake Off is really ruined.

BadTasteFlump · 14/09/2016 09:40

I always loved Bake Off but felt the whole format was becoming a little tired this year - so I think it was time for it to go really.

I won't bother watching it without Mel & Sue - they make the show IMO.

Personally tho I don't give a monkeys who any presenter has been shagging.

anonymousbird · 14/09/2016 09:43

And C4 is a public service broadcaster - what a waste of money.

I think newcomers, not big names, could work.

Judges? Only Delia could replace Mary, really. I can tolerate Hollywood as he actually doesn't spend a great deal of time talking to camera so I can generally ignore him.

MargotLovedTom · 14/09/2016 09:53

I think James Martin will have been ringing Love Productions non-stop since Mel and Sue's announcement. Fuck Asda and their cauliflower rice! Wink.

I wouldn't mind Jo Brand, as long as she goes easy on the 'overweight woman likes cake' thing.

paranormalish · 14/09/2016 09:53

Voyage of Dad

I read today that even if it's a disaster for C4 they stand to make £3M per episode

Advertising rates are very 'bums on seats' dependent if the audience vanishes so will the advertising revenue.

MargotLovedTom · 14/09/2016 09:55

They might go for the glamour factor with Lorraine Pascal as a replacement judge if necessary. Or that woman with a beehive - Izzy? Kizzy? Would be very C4 to make it more funky .

Nousernameforme · 14/09/2016 11:17

If it has to be a complete clean sweep my ideal set up would be Nigel Slater and Nigella Lawson with Sarah Millican I think she would be quite supportive. Bake off has to be, above all, nice you lose that and you've lost the heart of the show.

LineyReborn · 14/09/2016 11:30

I the problem with Sarah Millican would be as pp said about Jo Brand, there could be endless jokes about fat lasses loving cake which could get a bit dreary. Mel and Sue make it clear they like cake and baked stuff because they like the taste, not because of their body sizes iyswim.

hellsbellsmelons · 14/09/2016 11:30

It's gonna go the way of Top Gear.
Shame but there you go.

LineyReborn · 14/09/2016 11:31

Sorry

I think the problem

BitOutOfPractice · 14/09/2016 11:44

God no not Sarah Milligan. I find her voice very monotone and she was awful when she stood in for Jo Brand on the extra slice

BitOutOfPractice · 14/09/2016 11:45

Sorry Millican

BitOutOfPractice · 14/09/2016 11:45

Sorry Millican

PregnantAndEngaged · 14/09/2016 11:52

Just occurred to me... I really really hope that the spin off An Extra Slice programme continues when it's on channel 4!

TheLastHeatwave · 14/09/2016 12:03

Dear god not Ant & Dec or Jamie Oliver.

Davina I'd watch, bit of a girl crush on her. Not sure who else though.

Any other sexy male bakers out there?
