About the price of chicken fried rice?

DH and I have just ordered Chinese food for dinner and despite me begging that he doesn't embarrass me by ordering such a non-meal he has ordered chicken fried rice for £6.

I've ordered crispy shredded beef in satay sauce with a portion of fried rice for £6.50.

AIBU in thinking that chicken fried rice shouldn't cost the same as an actual meal?!

Brazenhussy0 · 13/09/2016 18:05

Waiting on DP getting back with a chippy... And now all I want is chicken fried rice Envy

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/09/2016 18:07

Brazenhussy, quickly ring him and ask him to detour into a Chinese for chicken fiend rice for you. Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/09/2016 18:08

fried, not fiend.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/09/2016 18:08

You should move to Yorkshire. Both those meals are less than a fiver even if you don't work for the NHS.

I usually get Ha Moon Vermicelli which is like Singapore noodles for softies. It is mostly noodles with meat veg and egg and is the same price as the other meals but it comes in a big container and they really cram it in so you get enough for two meals if you share a side portion as well.

BabarityOfRoses · 13/09/2016 18:08

Mmm, and some prawn crackers Lying. Mmm, teatime soon...

BarbaraofSeville · 13/09/2016 18:12

Surely your order from the Chinese is only embarrassing if you get one of the English dishes for people who won't eat foreign muck like sausage and chips.

Birdsgottafly · 13/09/2016 18:13

£3.80, for a good sized portion here (is chicken fried rice envy, now going to become a thing Hmm ).

Tell him it's probably not really beef that he's eating Grin

WankingMonkey · 13/09/2016 18:15

From my experience, chicken fried rice comes in a carton about 2x the side of egg fried rice.

Anyway, I always order chicken friend rice, chips, gravy and prawn crackers from the chinese..so I would annoy you too with my 'non meal' Grin

Theoretician · 13/09/2016 18:26

I don't understand the question. Why would fried rice of any kind not be a meal?

OK I see OP is having fried rice to accompany her meat dish. Actually I think she's the odd one. Fried rice is a meal, if you order something where the rice is specified separately to accompany it, I would have plain rice. Otherwise you are mixing two meals. (Having said that, on the very rare occasion I've had takeaway fried rices, it's been extremely bland compared to what we make at home, so my idea of fried rice may be off. Ours always contains copious amounts of chilli oil and Vietnamese fish sauce, so a version of it without meat would not mix with anything else. Chicken, prawns or chinese sausage are nice as the meat ingredient, but I reckon corned beef is actually the best.)

How much is a 3 bed detached and tray of chicken fried rice where you live?

IncidentalAnarchist · 13/09/2016 18:31

SharingMichelle · 13/09/2016 18:35

Am trying to work out why chicken fried rice is embarrassing.

leccybill · 13/09/2016 18:39

Chicken fried rice £5.20
3 bed detached £179,950

And I will not be adding cucumber or protein to my Friday night Chinese chippy binge!

hollinhurst84 · 13/09/2016 18:42

£5
£150,000

HoneyDragon · 13/09/2016 18:48

Clearly the takeaway needs to be cheaper for those of us that spend all our money on bricks Grin

DangerousBeanz · 13/09/2016 18:50

CFR £6
3 bed detatched £400,000.

I'm going to move in search of cheaper rice. (I also make my own because I refuse to pay £6 for a portion when I can make enough to feed a battalion for that money)

Gardencentregroupie · 13/09/2016 18:58

CFR £4.20 (but I have a feeling it's only 'side' size, they specify special fried rice and a few others are in 'long containers')

3 bed detached £350k

Chicken chow mein is miles better than dry old rice anyway, especially with curry sauce. Yum.

WankingMonkey · 13/09/2016 18:59

CFR £6 from the nice place, £4.80 from samonella central
£150k

WankingMonkey · 13/09/2016 18:59

*salmonella

BarbaraofSeville · 13/09/2016 19:00

Chicken Fried Rice - £4.60
3 bed detached - varies loads from £150k for a modern box to over £300k for a lovely period property.

Redglitter · 13/09/2016 19:01

Chicken Fried rice is absolutely a main meal. And as pp said it's a lot more rice than a side portion. He has good taste

BuonoEstente · 13/09/2016 19:01

We share it as a side and have a main each Blush

LookMoreCloselier · 13/09/2016 19:03

CFR £5.70
3 bed detached - ~£240K

LookMoreCloselier · 13/09/2016 19:05

Oh and if I have CFR, it has to have a side order of curry sauce and chips and prawn crackers Blush
