I cba to go in to every detail about DH's family but I am beyond irked right now & need to vent
His cousin has just ask what size nappies my DD is in as her DD is now dry (3 months older than my DD) so anyway same size she said 'oh cos I've got an unopened pack but asda will only give me £9 back as I got them in a 2 for £18 offer so if you want to give me £9 for them you might as well have them)
All sounds reasonable I guess until you factor in that when we moved into a new house we gave her the full kitchen when we replaced it, all cupboard fronts, the oven, washing machine, then shortly after I put some bedroom furniture on fb for sale 2 wardrobes, 2 chests of drawers & a bed, which she got in touch & asked if could have DH said it didn't matter about the money for them. Although second hand there was nothing wrong with any of it, she did bloody well!
And then she turns round & says this about the nappies, I said I've got a lot as I bought in bulk so don't need them but I am so annoyed right now, AIBU i just feel like she's totally taking the piss??

She is cheeky as fuck yanbu

YelloDraw · 11/09/2016 11:57

"After we gave you a whole new kitchen and bedroom furniture for free, you want to charge me £9 for a pack of nappies? Seriously?!?"

NisekoWhistler · 11/09/2016 11:57

Some people always forget kindness from others, you've done the right thing declining.

She's taking the piss. Most people give away the unneeded ones.

SleepFreeZone · 11/09/2016 11:59

I would assume they're skint.

AppleJac · 11/09/2016 11:59

There are alot of people like this.

My cousin is the same, has a very short memory about all the money i ve saved her over the years. She gets fuck all now

Mybeardeddragonjustdied2016 · 11/09/2016 12:02

Send her a bill for everything you have given her. Then don't bother with her unless you have to.

SatsukiKusakabe · 11/09/2016 12:04

This is funny - my two year old is recently dry and I just said to dh this morning that I was going to offer the unopened packs we have (because of course we took advantage of an offer mere days before she decided she was ready Hmm) to my neighbour and my SIL who have slightly younger toddlers. Never crossed my mind to ask for money, makes me cringe thinking about it.

If you need the money you go for a refund, if you want to do something nice for friends or family then do that - you're not doing anyone a favour by charging them, they may as well go to the shop themselves Confused

BustingOut · 11/09/2016 12:04

So let me get this straight? This numpty goes into Asda with a packet of nappies and Asda offer to give her back her money for them. She refuses brings nappies back home and then offers them to you?

mrsfuzzy · 11/09/2016 12:08

bit of a numpty isn't she or a bit thick considering she'd get £9 back, is she related to del trotter? split it straight down the middle 40 - 60 % Grin

Warl · 11/09/2016 12:09

Not sure if she actually took them back or just realised that's what she would get with them being a special buy. It's not even about the money i just think if someone had saved you all that money previously would you insult them by asking them to buy a pack of bloody nappies off you, I'm so angry about it, said to DH his family get nothing from us in future cos I just feel totally taken advantage of!!

avocadosweet · 11/09/2016 12:09

Why didn't she just return them to the shop?

GabsAlot · 11/09/2016 12:10

what a cheapskate

yes she maybe skint but just get the refund from the shop in that case

DameDoom · 11/09/2016 12:12

You can dine out on this story for years. What a cheeky cow. I'd pay her but then again I am rather passive aggressive like that.

Cocklodger · 11/09/2016 12:12

Mum helped me out massively when I was skint and on my ass.
A couple of years down the line we bought a new car (No longer so skint) and our old one was up for sale, Mum needed a car after hers suddenly broke down and would've been ££££ to fix, she didn't have the money there and then to fix or buy new.
Mum was given my old car completely free.
I couldn't have charged her a tenner for a car I was selling for £1000. She had done so much for me.
I cannot imagine charging her £9 for a pack of nappies.

Warl · 11/09/2016 12:13

I think it was because in some bizarre way she felt she was doing me a favour avocadosweet, she said they'll only give me £9 for them so if you want them for £9 you might as well have them'

The brass neck and short memory of some people is quite amazing.
I hope you and your DH remember this the next time you're getting rid of any house stuff.

MinonsMovie · 11/09/2016 12:15

YANBU. That's unreal and I've been in similar situations. Well done for being quick enough to say no. You'd be even more angry if you'd agree to that.

coconutpie · 11/09/2016 12:21

"After we gave you a whole new kitchen and bedroom furniture for free, you want to charge me £9 for a pack of nappies? Seriously?!?"

This.

Soubriquet · 11/09/2016 12:23

Oh god my MIL is exactly the same

She will spend a fortune buying herself things for the house. Few months down the line she gets bored and buys it all over again in another colour and leaves herself broke. To try and make some quick cash she used to come to us to see if we would buy it from her

My mouth used to drop as I was brought up thinking you don't charge family!

She soon got bored as we refused to buy anything and I would see them on FB and not getting any offers due to the stupid price she would try and charge.

OlennasWimple · 11/09/2016 12:24

I get why you're annoyed, but you've said no, there's no point now dwelling on it and getting crosser. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter!

Naicehamshop · 11/09/2016 12:29

Olenna is right, but I would be so furious I would have to casually say "By the way, how are you getting on with the kitchen...oh, and the bedroom furniture?" Grin

RattataPidgeyRattataPidgey · 11/09/2016 12:30

You didn't approach her with a need for nappies though, did you? I understand why you are offended, but I think I read the offer a slightly different way. She clearly believes she could get her money back no problem, so it sounds like she actually realised it might be nicer to offer to get the £9 back off someone who would also benefit from the cheaper price.
