To not know if I'm falling for mattress hype Eve vs Simba vs Leesa

We need a new mattress (we are both not sleeping well, back ache etc) and I have kinda fallen for the advertising for the Eve mattress.
We need a 160cm wide mattress (curse Ikea bed frames, but I can't find another frame I like as much as our current one) which mean out choice of 'mattress in a box with 100 day free trial' is either Eve, Leesa or Simba.

They all tell you they are the most comfortable and have memo techno foamy stuff and are like nothing else but essentially seem pretty similar.

Can anyone recommend one of them? Or should I stop looking at £600 ones that are really just cheap mattresses with expensive marketing and invest in a hypnos or dunlopillo? have I just fallen for their marketing?

I think the sleep deprivation is making the decision even harder! I know that over 10 years the cost per nights sleep isn't much but it seems a big investment at the moment......

I have a mattress from John Ryan by Design. It’s fantastic and the customer service is unbelievably good. I ordered mine online and a lady called me within a few minutes to ask how heavy DH and I were. When I told her she recommended a different mattress, which was cheaper than the one I had originally gone for.

It’s the best money I’ve ever spent. DS has got the least expensive John Ryan mattress on his bed too and it’s just as comfy as ours.

Look at their reviews on TrustPilot. Mine’s on there somewhere.

I've got a Simba, when I tested one in John Lewis it was very very soft but still supportive. The mattresses in shops are always much softer than the new ones because they have been lain on so much. My Simba is actually quite hard, so at present I'm using it with a topper. I'm sure in time my Simba will get softer, I've only had it for 6 months so far. It is comfortable and worth a try. The Simba returned mattresses get donated to charity, they are not sold on but they only get a small percentage back apparently. The reviews for them on the John Lewis website are good.

I loooooooooooooooooooove my Leesa. We're about 2.5 months in and I don't have a single complaint, it's so good that every time I've been away, every time I get into bed I think "I miss Leesa".

The smell wasn't nice but I didn't really mind it, we didn't let it air as we didn't have the room.

We read all the reviews on Sleepopolis and they scored Leesa highest, plus if you change your mind, the old mattress goes to a local charity which is a lovely touch.

Know this is a while back, KnappShappey , but what mattress did you end up with? Found one you are happy with. Having exactly that dilemma. Currently trying a Leesa and after week one is not great yet! Hip pains and neck pains coming back. But they are very keen to say it can take up to a month to adjust to it. Just want to have some options, if I feel I need to return in. Had a firm Ikea one (Hovag firm) for a year before this and that has just turned out too firm over time for me, side sleeper, 10 stone, 5'7''. Now considering my options. Thanks so much for any info!

Can I join this thread? We are debating between the Emma and Casper. Both are well advertised and similar price. Anyone have any advice?

maddieR · 22/02/2018 21:54

Also grateful to hear opinions- AnneLondon I’m completely match your description! We bought an Eve mattress and need to make decisions in next week or so before 100 day period runs out. My husband LOVEs it but I find it really firm- despite the additional topper they gave us for free which helps but slides right down every night which is a pain. Hubby collapsed on it the other day with some force and joked he’d broken his shoulder! No give! Thinking of trying the Emma....have sciatica so need something supportive. Any thoughts? I loved my former mattress- pocket spring with memory foam top, a Reylon and Which “Best Buy” but after three years the indents where we slept were ridiculous, we literally fell into the valleys!

HettyB · 23/02/2018 07:16

We have a Casper and love it. My back is much better since getting it.

Wheretheresawill1 · 23/02/2018 08:06

I have a simba. I love it- feels like sleeping on a cloud. It hasn't helped my bad back unfortunately

usernotfound0000 · 23/02/2018 08:10

We have a Leesa, had it around 6 months now, absolutely no complaints here, we haven't slept so well.

lycoperdun · 23/02/2018 08:37

I have had to sleep on a variety of mattresses in the last few years, I found I hate the sweaty memory foam, the soggy support and the dipping at the edges etc, and much prefer a sprung mattress with a firm spring and thin but soft top layer.

The memory foam felt OK ish at first but over time was too soft and I felt the lack of 'bounce back' made my body feel dead and heavy. Springs have nicer feel I think.

I have a sprung wool/ organic mattress now so also the bonus of no flame retardant, but it was well worth the expense and my back and hips hurt much, much less.

neverhadanymarblestolose · 23/02/2018 09:08

Some Next stores have the Eve mattress, so you can have a lie down on it. Personally it wasn't for me, so was glad to have tried it in-store, rather than the faff of buying and returning it.

thetemptationofchocolate · 23/02/2018 10:19

ditzychick asked: Anyone know what happens to the returned mattresses? Do they just put them in a fresh box and send them back out to someone else? Fleas and all?

That's what I wondered on seeing the Eve advert - I would be put off by the thought that it might be a re-packaged trial mattress.

Babyblade · 23/02/2018 10:58

The Otty mattress is pocket sprung with memory foam on top, whereas the Leesa looks as if it's entirely foam. Not sure about the Simba and Eve.

Good to hear a couple of positive reviews about the Otty - it's on my wish list for this year :-)

SleepyDude · 08/03/2018 10:35

I believe the returned mattresses either get sold second hand on Ebay or get recycled, the parts can be taken out and used by other mattress companies.

Shredded memory foam pillows for example sometimes use memory foam from recycled mattresses.

maddieR · 08/03/2018 12:47

Eve is going back Sat and I’ve ordered a Casper on basis of Which saying it provides best support for side sleepers. We will see if we get on with that. If that’s doesn’t work I’ll go for Otty!

Ledkr · 11/03/2018 09:17

After lots of research I went for the Hyde and sleep matress, the only one which had a soft to medium firmness.
We got free pillows duvet and bedding with it which is lovely too.
It's really comfy and my hip and lower back pain have all but gone.
We can't wait to get into bed here.

Unfinishedkitchen · 11/03/2018 09:29

I’ve got a Casper. My chronic back problems were solved overnight. DH and I love it. My DD wants one for her bed now too.

maddieR · 11/03/2018 10:00

Hurrah got our Casper and love it. First full night sleep (bad back) in ages. Delighted.

Buxbaum · 11/03/2018 10:09

We have bought a Studio by Silentnight mattress for the spare room and it is so comfortable that I’ve slept on it a few times out of choice (and our usual bed is an eye-wateringly expensive Hypnos). We have the firmer option, which is very, very firm and possibly not to everyone’s taste, but it helps my pregnancy-related pelvic pain and sciatica enormously. Can’t comment on sweatiness in hot weather yet but our house is warm and well-insulated and it isn’t sweaty at all. I haven’t compared to the other bed-in-a-box brands but if you want something v firm I would highly recommend.

We have a king size Leesa & love it. Not experienced edge support issues. Did lots of research before buying & it seemed to come out on top in all the mattress in a box comparisons. Search for discount codes before buying or sign up on their website for news you'll get offers ASAP!

possumgoddess · 23/05/2018 09:59

I can't bear memory foam. I like a soft mattress (I'm quite heavy so I get sore hips if I lie on my side on a hard mattress) and the best one I ever tried was a Mammoth foam (but not memory foam) mattress. It was £800 in the sale over a year ago so we didn't buy it, but I wish we had!

MsJolly · 24/06/2018 20:43

I know this is an old thread but has anyone have recent experience-am so desperately searching for a new mattress. Am a side sleeper and don't like too firm a mattress as then I get hip pain

Patapouf · 24/06/2018 20:51

My eve mattress is the single best thing I have ever bought. I haven’t tried Simba et al but am very happy with the eve and sleep terribly whenever I’m away from home
