This writer sounds like a spoilt child, unable to listen to anyone else's opinion!

Her own point is quite frankly ridiculous too! She claims that nobody should write about what they can't experience, it's cultural appropriation if they do! Hmm

For once the Graun has a good article: Riz Ahmed on "Typecast as a Terrorist" Very thoughtful piece from the perspective of an actor on what sort of roles (presumably often written by white writers) open to someone from an ethnic minority background, and what sort of roles he'd like. And the interesting cross-over between acting and presenting a particular version of yourself to authority figures when going through airport security, and how the game becomes doubly complicated when the authority figure is themselves from the same ethnic background (from the article: The last kid who searched me, a young Muslim boy with an immaculate line-beard and goatee, was particularly apologetic. “Sorry bro. If it makes you feel any better, they search me before I fly too.”)

Saw an interview with the dark haired actor from Breaking Bad (with cerebal palsy I think), I think he was saying something about people without disabilities getting awards for paying disabled characters, when disabled actors can't get work.

So should Eddie Redmayne not have played Stephen Hawking? I'm not arguing, it's a genuine question.

Eddie had to portray stephen hawkings prior to his symptoms emerging. Unless they used two actors it would of been impossible.

bluebolt - oh yes of course, I was being a bit stupid there - I didn't think it through.

Thanks littleprincesssara, I got a bit carried away, and probably quite off topic so I'm glad you found my post interesting.

Great article MostlyHet. I worked for a while with a Sikh man who shared some similar experiences with me about airport security although luckily most of his stories were far more like the end of the article than the beginning. I remember him mostly as being fantastically good looking, but clearly that's not what security saw when they looked at him.
