Partner wants to throw the baby's doll away

My three month old son has a little doll that his nana bought for him a couple of days ago. My partner has just told me he's going to throw it away 'because he doesn't like it.'

I told him that he's being childish and that I'm upset with his attitude. Who is being unreasonable?

I don't buy dd dolls because they scare me just a little bit. She hasn't asked for one yet though, so that's a relief.

KoalaDownUnder · 09/09/2016 16:09

I cannot think of one single reason why it would be inappropriate to buy a doll for a boy.

Have I slipped through a time warp and wound up in the 1950s?! Confused

KurriKurri · 09/09/2016 16:10

Your partner is sulking over a doll, which he 'doesn't like' but won't say why?

He sounds completely barking. Has he had a bad experience with a Cursed Doll in the past ??

Anyway - it doesn't matter if he likes it, I wouldn't expect a grown man to be entertained by a child's toy. Your son likes it and it's his. Daddy needs to go and play with his own toys and let your son get on with doing his thing (i.e.being a baby.)

Eldest son was 21 months when his wee brother was born. He used to breastfeed a baby doll while I fed the baby. 16 years later, he seems quite keen on girls.

Willow2016 · 09/09/2016 16:59

"If I'm honest I'd never buy a baby boy a doll or doll type teddy. It's best to go for a traditional teddy bear."

Why?

Why cant boys show their caring nurturing side as well as girls? They could grow up to be dads, its good practice! Smile

ICanHazCakeNow · 09/09/2016 17:02

The Doll isn't cheap tat is it? (Not to disparage your Mums taste)
My MIL used to buy our DCs all manner of cheap 'stuff' that we would smile and thank her for, before binning 2 days later.

Otherwise, as previously said, he's being a dick.

SquidgyRedBall · 09/09/2016 17:05

When/if he throws it away you must retrieve it and leave it in his bed/car/wardrobe. Just don't mention it. Just keep doing it every time he throws it away Grin

JudyCoolibar · 09/09/2016 17:08

Tell him if he can't produce a reason for not liking it then he's admitting that there is no reason and it stays.

emilywemily · 09/09/2016 17:09

Buy the big fucking baby his own doll!

Aeroflotgirl · 09/09/2016 17:10

My ds 4:8 years has asked for a doll to look after, one that talks, so Ive bought him one. I hate this attitude, so if a boy has a doll, his willy will drop off, or he won't be a proper boy Hmm. One day mabey ds will be a dad, and will be looking after a real life baby, so best get practice now eh Wink.

Awww is poor DH scared of the ickle dolly? Blush

Tell him you'll put it somewhere where he won't see it and he won't have to be scared anymore.

Goingtobeawesome · 09/09/2016 17:39

ThumbWitches has the best idea. Ask him what she asked her partner.

wheresthel1ght · 09/09/2016 17:42

Depends entirely on what it is he doesn't like. Generally it will either be;

  1. it's got creepy "watching you and planning to kill you eyes"
  2. it's a girls toy

If it is 2 then he is a twat!

If however it is 1 then he is definitely not being unreasonable. I have binned/charity shooed several creepy Chucky-esq dolls that have been handed down to dd.

SpaceDinosaur · 09/09/2016 17:42

Is the eyes... Good god the eyes...

Oh, OP. Be really careful letting your son near dolls. They're crawling with The Gay

Perhaps a small handgun would make your partner happier?

lemony7 · 09/09/2016 17:51

I threw away one of my daughter's dolls because it looked like Margaret Thatcher

PotteringAlong · 09/09/2016 17:54

I'm with everyone else. I've binned many a weird looking doll for my boys because they are freaky. The nine freaky ones are fine. The ones that look like psychotic murderers are not.

It depends why he's binned it.

MrsJayy · 09/09/2016 17:59

Wtaf is abomination if the doll looks like that then burn it with fire if not your partner is being a twat
