To Think This Is Too Harsh?

I came across an article this morning about a woman who has been sentenced to 5 years for using a parent and child parking space without a child. I hate when people do this, car parks are a nightmare when you have kids especially when you have to park quite a bit away from the shop. It is infuriating, but is 5 years in jail away from her children not a bit much? Considering theres peadophiles and rapists out there that get far less.
Not going to lie I got a giggle at the end end of the article - A 64-year-old man was arrested at Southend Waitrose for using a Parent and Child space with his 41-year-old son.

A fellow shopper said: ‘I can’t see how this will ever be progressed through the Crown Prosecution Service. None of the signs stipulate a minimum age.’

I think we need a link since P+C space are not a legal thing I fail to see how anyone can be sent to prison for using one

There is a spoof news site for Southend - I suspect you must have been reading that, Vulty. Don't be embarrassed though - I got caught out by it once - something about the council removing the A13.

I can't believe this happened in the UK unless there's a whole lot more to the story.

The only way I can imagine someone being jailed over parking in a P+C space would be if they'd deliberately parked on top of someone or assaulted someone who'd challenged them parking there.

Asda put a max age (12). I'm not posh enough to shop at waitrose.

I'd be a bit embarrassed to be honest - surely everyone knows that P+C spaces aren't protected by law

I've got a friend who keeps posting links to the daily mash on Facebook and getting all outraged and indignant about them - she's always suitably embarrassed when it's pointed out that it's a spoof newspaper, and then a few weeks later she's at it again 😂

You might not go to jail but our local sainsburys are not fining people £150 if they use a p and c space with no under 12's

You may as well laugh OP, but it isn't really very believable!

I think it's poking fun and the number of people who think and empty car seat justifies the use of the space.

I'm really surprised that some places are putting a max age of 12 on them. I thought they were for people with under 5s (special needs, health conditions excluded of course). I can't imagine thinking I needed one - or ever using one - when I'm with my healthy 7 year old, but I find them very useful when I have my toddler.
