To think tommee tippee products are a bit shit?

After months of people raising concerns about the tommee tippee steamer blender being unsafe and asking for it to be recalled tommee tippee have finally issued a safety recall. People were finding the blades were chopping bits of plastic off the jug presenting a choking risk due to the plastic ending up in the baby's food. Tommee tippee spent months denying that this could happen and said it was only possible if it was assembled incorrectly. Tommee tippee have now admitted that bits of plastic can break off even when used correctly and have offered replacement jugs and blades with a new design to those affected (notice they didn't offer full refunds as an Automatic right).

Independent Research has also raised concerns about the safety of the perfect prep machine (due to water temperatures and the filtered water) but tommee tippee have failed to respond to those concerns.

Aibu to think tommee tippee products are a bit shit and until they properly address all the concerns they should not be allowed to make any more electrical products?

Of course many formula feeding women couldn't care less how somebody else chooses to feed their baby but there are some women who are a bit sneery and dismissive about breastfeeding (I have several in my family).

I think this is true the other way round too.

I love the tt first cup, it seems to be cup of choice at snack time for all the playgroups we go to.

I also loved my perfect machine although I was a bit disappointed it broke after a year as I was hoping to save it for dc2 whenever they might come along.

Summerholsdoingmyheadin · 08/09/2016 13:31

Yes it is true the other way round too milky. I don't care how anybody else feeds their child but I wouldn't feel comfortable discussing breastfeeding issues in front of (for example) my cousin who thinks that breastfeeding is disgusting. If she or someone like her was at a feeding group I wouldn't be happy discussing breastfeeding issues knowing that she is judging me and just wants to tell me to 'get her on formula and stop moaning about breastfeeding dramas'.

I breastfed, but there were notices up all over the maternity unit in our hospital explaining that the Perfect prep machines were unsafe. Something about the water not being hot enough to kill of the bacteria & bugs in formula I think?

milkyface · 08/09/2016 13:36

I get that summer I would feel the same.

I think general feeding groups are a good idea but probably wouldn't work in practice unfortunately.

Most people are like you and me and don't really give a shiny shit what anyone else does, but of course you get the occasional idiot who thinks breastfeeding is disgusting or formula is evil, and can't keep their unwanted opinions to themselves.

OP YANBU. I don't have one of the blenders but that's pretty shocking for tt to be so lax. It puts me off buying their products.

Does the blender also heat the food? If not then I highly recommend the Kenwood mini mix. The jug is about the size of a large mug and it also comes with a hand blender, whisk and measuring jug. I think it was about £40 and I use it all the time.

I like the basic tt sippy cups and bibs. I hate their valve cups. I bought one for dc1 and it leaked just as badly as the basic one with the spout up, and it was a pain to clean because of the valve parts. Stupid product.

I have breastfed/am breastfeeding (as I type) 2 dcs. Dc1 also had formula in the daytime when I went back to work. To make bottles I just added the powder to 2oz of boiling water and mixed, then added the other 6oz of cooled boiled water from the fridge. Perfect temperature bottle in under 2 mins.

MolesBreathless - ODFOD. My choice to breastfeed doesn't concern you at all. I do it because it is the best thing for my babies and because I was lucky enough to be able to. I don't do it because I'm trying to undermine ff mothers. The word breastapo is very offensive. You ignorant twunt.

StrawberryQuik · 08/09/2016 15:41

The tommee tippie breast pads are fine, not as good as lanolish but much better than supermarket own brand.

The little baby scissors are also fine. Not used anything else.

I've never made up a bottle but couldn't you just pour a little boiling water straight onto the formula then top up with cooled water to get it to a nice temp? I'm guessing there's a reason not to?

There is absolutely no reason not to. It is essentially what the perfect prep does only difference being that using your suggested method you can add cool water that has been boiled, the cool water from the pp is only filtered but not boiled.

Avent bottles and other products all so much better than TT
I remember when my son was a few days old and i was attempting to breast feed and the health visitor came and said he needed formula ASAP and was dehydrated.
Husband went out, bought the first bottle he saw -TT. It was so rubbish. The milk would pool around the top of the inside.

There is a reason.

You'd still have to wait for the kettle to cool for 30 mins (which is what I think you should do)

Plus you put say 2oz hot water in the bottle, then you out in your 6 scoops formula. Then you out your cooled boiled water in to make it up to 6 oz.

It wouldn't be right you wouldn't have added enough liquid,

You'd have to have exactly 4oz of cooled boiled water stored somewhere which is a pain in the arse in itself!

milkyface · 08/09/2016 16:13

Not what I think you should do. Sorry. What I think you're supposed to do.

Batteriesallgone · 08/09/2016 16:27

Pretty sure my DSIL did just that. Had smaller bottles that were used for storing specific amounts of cooled boiled water. Put formula in bottle, added hot water from kettle up to a line they'd pre-measured onto the bottles, then took a pre-prepared cooled boiled water bottle and added it. Requires some prep but is basically exactly what the PP does.

milkyface · 08/09/2016 16:30

I'm just lazy and prefer to pay for a machine that does it for me to be honest Grin

Summerholsdoingmyheadin · 08/09/2016 18:49

There is no need to wait 30 minutes for the water to cool. The water for the 'hot shot' needs to be above 70 degrees Celsius.
