I have refused to go on a course on DS's birthday

Work want me to go on a course in London on DS's 3rd birthday - 9.00am until 5.30pm and I live in Cumbria!

I have refused to go.

I don't actually think I'm being unreasonable, although my boss did a face but I really wnated to post a thread in this subject

I’d refuse too if it meant I wouldn’t see my DC at all that day, even now they are 16 and 20. It sounds like a non important course that can be done another time so definitely right to say no. Kids grow up fast, as a working mum i’d draw the line too with this. If that impacts on my career, so be it, some things are important and this is one of those things.
