WTF do I do??

2 bats are doing laps of my bedroom ceiling.

DH is unconcerned.

I have retreated to the bathroom.

Oh fuck.

Here (US) they tell you that if you find a bat in your house, you need to be checked over by a doctor, because bat bites are so small you can be bitten and not even feel it.

I'm also in the US. Dh has seen a woman die of rabies from a bat bite (didn't think it was a bite, didn't take it seriously, went travelling etc) not a good way to die.

Also had a friend who had a bat in her bedroom. Called pest control. Turned out her neighbour's attic was completely colonised (he was elderly, lived alone and didn't hear them) and when they ran out of space they started colonising my friend's attic next door - attics were like caves full of them.

Is your room in the belfry?

Thanks for the responses last night! In the warm light of day (25 degrees here already!) it doesn't seem so bad. I'm sure we won't feel so blase (with an e acute) come bedtime.

This is what happened...

I was drinking a very nice local red wine with my dear old dad in the kitchen. DH was already asleep when I came to bed. As I lay down thinking about how peaceful it was and what a shame Brexit was and how cool it was that I've still got a few more months of maternity leave and congratulating myself on both dcs being temporarily asleep at the same time, I heard a noise.

In the moonlight I saw something whizzing around the ceiling above my head. 2 effing BATS.

It must have been karma for my smugness about the dc being asleep.

It took a while to fully awaken dh - he kept muttering about them flying out of the window on their own and how I should try to sleep.

Eventually he woke enough to panic. We found the biggest towel provided by the gite owners and cursed their meanness in not supplying bathsheets and we hid behind it.

At one point one flew into the bathroom where I was mostly hiding.

It took ages until they left but thankfully no one was bitten.

We'll be closing the window tonight!

OP...I think closing the windows is a wise course of action!

Soubriquet Ah French bats probably do have rabies

I know it's true and just a simple fact (also that UK bats are less likely) but it just seems so British to blame the French :o ...all very Blackadder! :o

I was very excited to see one sunning itself on a building the other day when we were gadding about the countryside for coffee ...such a cutiepie!
