How long would you leave it until you do something about a 3 year old in a car?

What's the cut off age? I'm sitting in my car, another car had been here since I got here and it's been 30 mins now. Little boy/girl is crying in the car a couple of cars down, literally wailing. What should I do? Someone must be coming back in a bit. Child is about 3.

I would phone the police within 5 - 10 minutes

TheSparrowhawk · 05/09/2016 16:27

After that length of time I'd be worried that the adult in charge fell ill or had an accident or something. It's a very long time to leave such a small child.

TheSparrowhawk · 05/09/2016 16:28

I think I'd wait a maximum about about 5 minutes before phoning the police, if only to give the adult a kick up the arse.

TheSparrowhawk · 05/09/2016 16:29

Also, after watching a child distressed for 30 minutes I don't think I'd be able to resist breaking the window to get at them. I don't know how you've managed to just watch for that long - it'd drive me mad.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/09/2016 16:30

Ffs, you'd never leave you handbag on a car seat in an empty car so why on earth would you leave a child?!I'd ring the police.

RunnyRattata · 05/09/2016 16:31

It's a good job you managed to register or name change to get on here to ask advice OP.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 16:31

Where are you that it's hot?!

We've had to have the heating on today

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/09/2016 16:32

I have all the windows and doors open as it's so warm,it would be awful in a car.

RunnyRattata · 05/09/2016 16:33

We've driven North to South today and seen all kinds of temps Soubriquet

UmbongoUnchained · 05/09/2016 16:33

I'm in cornwall. It raining but it's un believably hot and humid. My car was an oven when I got into it this morning.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 16:37

Cornwall?

Always wanted to live there

January87 · 05/09/2016 16:41

I sat in the car with the kids for ten minutes with the kids while DH went into the shops earlier, we had all windows down and after five minutes we were all sweltering and I needed to turn on the A/C to cool us down.

Hope the child is ok.

UmbongoUnchained · 05/09/2016 16:42

sou you're welcome to it I hate it here! Haha, we're moving soon anyway.

GlitteryFluff · 05/09/2016 16:51

Hope the police/parents came back shortly after you posted. Poor little thing.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 16:51

Oh... Well there we go. Hope you like your new home

HoppityFrogs · 05/09/2016 16:52

Phone 101.

Goingtobeawesome · 05/09/2016 16:53

The argument about you wouldn't leave your handbag so why a child is pointless. A handbag can be full of financial gain and you aren't left with something inconvenient. A child isn't going to be taken as its such a bigger risk, no real gain unless you are unwell and long for a child etc.

Qwebec · 05/09/2016 16:54

To answer your cut off question: where I live it is illegal to leave a child under the age of 7 alone in the car.

user1470132907 · 05/09/2016 16:55

OP what happened when you called police?

KellyElly · 05/09/2016 16:57

A three year old shouldn't be left alone in a car period. I'd have called the police after 5 mins.

I don't think OP is coming back with an update. Hopefully this is a windup as why would you leave a child for that long in a car.

Where I am it's pretty cold today and I still wouldn't leave a 3yo for 30mins

I'm so glad you stuck around to check, lots wouldn't. You're definitely doing the right thing by calling the police now.
