How long would you leave it until you do something about a 3 year old in a car?

What's the cut off age? I'm sitting in my car, another car had been here since I got here and it's been 30 mins now. Little boy/girl is crying in the car a couple of cars down, literally wailing. What should I do? Someone must be coming back in a bit. Child is about 3.

Oh goodness yes you need to intervene

CigarsofthePharoahs · 05/09/2016 15:48

Half an hour is well long enough if the child is distressed. On a hot day I'd only wait 5 minutes.
Hopefully the parent/guardian of the child will get an official kick up the bum.

imjessie · 05/09/2016 15:49

Bloody hell , some people are so stupid . Why would you leave a child in a car ffs ??

WhisperingLoudly · 05/09/2016 15:50

I'd have called after 10 mins, possibly a little longer if a supermarket carpark.

Hope the child is ok

DollyBarton · 05/09/2016 15:53

God, who leaves a 3 yr old for 30+ minutes in a car (directed at the parent, not you OP). It's hot here today! Poor child.

JennyOnAPlate · 05/09/2016 15:56

I would call 999. If you call 101 round here you're on hold for half an hour!

LeonardInTheArgosBag · 05/09/2016 15:58

God, that is awful. Poor kid.

Did anyone ever read the Washington Post piece on the phenomenon of children dying in cars? It points out that you don't even need a very hot day due to cars acting in the same way as a convection oven.

Here's the story. It's very harrowing, but an incredible read.

eatsleephockeyrepeat · 05/09/2016 16:01

Is there any news quidi?

99percentchocolate · 05/09/2016 16:02

Leonard - I read that a few years ago and I've never forgotten it. It's terrifying how easily a child can die in a car.

Hope the police are on their way op

TwoLittleBlooms · 05/09/2016 16:03

I would be calling 999, three is still so small. Poor mite Sad

Tiredmumno1 · 05/09/2016 16:03

I hope help has arrived and the child is ok.

WellErrr · 05/09/2016 16:05

Half an hour?

Fucks sake. You should have rung them 20 minutes ago at least. Poor child.

LagunaBubbles · 05/09/2016 16:06

Leonard I watched one of those Extreme Cheapskates programmes at the weekend, somewhere in America (I cant remember where) a woman placed a tray of cookie dough on her dashboard and left it for 2 hours - temperatures reached 160 degrees C and it cooked her cookies in 2 hours. (It was all to avoid the cost of the electricity), I was shocked at how high the temp was.

LagunaBubbles · 05/09/2016 16:06

Hope the child has been rescued now.

LeonardInTheArgosBag · 05/09/2016 16:07

It's an unforgettable read, 99.

MakeItStopNeville · 05/09/2016 16:08

Hope they are ok!

I read that article a while back. It's really very heartbreaking.

steff13 · 05/09/2016 16:08

Kids die in hot cars here every single year. In fact, they just passed a law that excuses someone from civil liability if they break a car window to rescue a child or a pet. I don't see any need to leave a small child or pet alone in a car for any length of time.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 16:09

Sad poor little child

30 mins is way too long!

Even 10 mins is pushing it especially if they are crying

Careforadrink · 05/09/2016 16:10

Police. Now.

Frazzled2207 · 05/09/2016 16:14

Please report back and say that the kid is ok

UmbongoUnchained · 05/09/2016 16:17

It's so hot today, I would've called 999 straight away! Poor thing.

Jackie0 · 05/09/2016 16:20

Bloody hell Angry
Are the windows down ?

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/09/2016 16:21

This is so cruel. I hope the child is ok. Sad

SirNiallDementia · 05/09/2016 16:23

I am gob smacked someone would leave a toddler in a car alone for 30 minutes whatever the weather, poor kid must be terrified.

Has the parent come back yet OP or have the police come first?

Ginkypig · 05/09/2016 16:25

I hope everything's ok op.
