To be angry with Greggs girl?

RebelRogue · 01/09/2016 17:09

Went i to my local Greggs and ordered two pepperoni pizzas and a star cookie for dd. Guy at checkout tells me that i can have a drink for only 50p. I picked a coke and put it on the counter. Girl behind me pipes up "you really should have a ribena with two pizzas and a cookie, not coke". I replied with " I'm a grownup and i'll pick my own bloody drink, thank you!".
As to not drip feed, yes i am fat(in case that was her issue) ,no i don't like ribena.

You are a 'grown up' you keep saying??......so why the anger?

RebelRogue · 01/09/2016 17:23

The guy serving me said i could have a drink for an extra 50p,picked the coke and put it on the counter the guy said ok. Don't think coke wasn't on offer as the numbers wouldn't add up

If she's working in Greggs shes a woman, not a girl. And OP, you were way ruder to her than she was to you, so maybe "being a grownup" needs to extend to not being a dick to servers?

BathshebaAndGabriel · 01/09/2016 17:25

You can get pizzas in Greggs? Blimey.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/09/2016 17:25

I am guessing the meal deal was for drink cartons like Ribenna, you misunderstood her and your over reaction put them off telling you.

This would really have pissed me off too, and I wouldn't have had the bottle (no pun intended) to have answered back. Well done OP, you did the right thing and your conscience should be clear, no matter what you decided to buy!

AmysTiara · 01/09/2016 17:30

I don't think op was any ruder than the greggs assistant.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 01/09/2016 17:30

I didn't know Gregg's sold pizza either!

FireSquirrel · 01/09/2016 17:30

It seems a really odd way of implying you're fat. I would've thought it more likely that it was either just a clumsy attempt at trying to make lighthearted conversation - 'the ribena goes soo much nicer with pizza than the coke' - and didn't intend it to come across as patronising, or she meant that it was only the ribena which was the 50p special offer drink and not the coke. YNBU to be a bit baffled by it but it's a bit U to automatically assume it was a dig at your weight, and I think given that you don't know for sure that it was a dig at you, your reply was unnecessarily snappy.

Ninasimoneinthemorning · 01/09/2016 17:31

Jaimey Oliver would have a feild day in Greggs now.

Two coffees and two cakes or any two pie/pastie for £4 🙈

Ninasimoneinthemorning · 01/09/2016 17:32

Nina has no buisness being in Greggs!

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 01/09/2016 17:33

Do things often get a bit heated in Gregg's?

rainbowunicorn · 01/09/2016 17:34

It sounds to me as if the girl was just making conversation. Perhaps that is her drink of choice with Pizza and cookie and she was making a jokey comment. I think you are reading a bit much into it to be honest. I made a similar comment to a colleague about how I always drink milk when having a tuna sandwich. No malice intended just a wee bit of conversation. Lighten up a bit.

RebelRogue · 01/09/2016 17:34

Dixie she was an employee.
Like i said,if the coke wasn't in the deal, the total price would've been different.

gillybeanz · 01/09/2016 17:42

You sound very touchy OP, maybe she wasn't referring to your size but the flavours together.
We are friendly and comment on lots up here, I'm afraid you'd have got a Confused look round here.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 01/09/2016 17:43

Lighten up a bit.

Don't tell her to lighten up, she's a grown up! Wink

gillybeanz · 01/09/2016 17:44

I like orange cordial with fish it's just the drink of choice and tastes so nice, I'd recommend it to anyone. try it OP, you might like it.

whywonthedgehogssharethehedge · 01/09/2016 17:44

A lot of the time the 50p drinks are Ribena, she may have been talking to her colleague to remind him. If they enter things manually in the till they can get away with charging you 50p for the coke but it doesn't alter the fact that it may have supposed to have been Ribena. That would be my first thought.

I can't imagine why it would be a slight on your weight to say that? If she wanted to slight you surely she would say you should be drinking diet coke? or water? There's little difference between Ribena and Coke, both are sugary as hell. I suspect you are overreacting because you are paranoid about being overweight and buying pizzas. Don't be. It's fuck all to do with anyone else what you choose to eat, your body, your choice.

Soubriquet · 01/09/2016 17:44

I get what you are saying OP

Would have been interesting to see if she said the same thing to a slim woman

RebelRogue · 01/09/2016 17:44

Guess i'm just a grumpy sod then GrinGrin

I've never been in Greggs and there hasn't been a fat person in there, so I don't think it was a dig about your weight, tbh.

There's usually, fat people (myself included), workmen, harassed Dads and the odd hippie type just getting coffee.

We now have a 'pound bakery' whose stuff beats Greggs.

She's probably just a 'pass-remarkable' person.
