To think going to Disney is a ridiculous indulgence?

Now, maybe i would feel differently if I could afford to go without completely skunk ring myself Grinbut as it stands, we can't and I can't help but think that spending such huge amounts on one holiday is crazy!

We watch Disney and enjoy it, and I'm well aware that it's people's money to spend how they like but I just can't help but think it's a silly wage of money? Anyone agree?

I've gone to Orlando 4 times and never gone into debt.

In fact our last visit, had a flight delay which I have recently claimed and got £2100 back and that has paid for a week in Salou next summer! We get to visit Port Adventura and have a family holiday, most likely for the last time as dd will be 17 and already has holidays marked out for the next few years.

emilybrontescorset · 30/08/2016 06:40

I went for the first time ever Ever this year and it was by far the best holiday I have ever had.

I didn't get into debt for it though.

Horses for courses and all that.

SabineUndine · 30/08/2016 06:42

I think it's a complete waste of money but that's different.

phillipp · 30/08/2016 06:47

Its the way people talk about it, like it'll be a dream come true, it's just a themepark holiday, which are fun, but there's nothing particularly special about disney compaired to other cheaper themepark holidays

sorry but I disagree. Besides which for some people going there is a dream come true. Some people dream of a luxury cruise holiday, or flying first class or back packing world.

None of these things interest me and I don't judge that they do as a waste of money or over indulgence.

phillipp · 30/08/2016 06:51

We go for less than 10k, it's about 6k including the huge amount of clothes and trainers we used to buy when the exchange rate was really good.

But we don't go in August. I can imagine it can easily reach that in August.

We book flights, cars and villa separately. And always book the villa last minute. We once got a 5 bedroom luxury villa for £350 for two weeks including pool heat.

FeckinCrutches · 30/08/2016 07:35

Livia you never go on holiday ever?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/08/2016 07:40

No - haven't been for 34 years (since I was 12)

doubletroublechildren · 30/08/2016 07:41

10k for a holiday. I just choked on my coffee. How on earth can anyone save for that?? I bloody well just manage to save a couple of hundred for the uniforms and Christmas. I must be really poor.

FeckinCrutches · 30/08/2016 07:41

Well I never! Do you have children?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/08/2016 07:44

No - why?

FeckinCrutches · 30/08/2016 07:44

Double we spend a lot on holidays BUT my house is pretty rubbish Grin my mum is horrified constantly that I have no desire to 'do it up' but it's clean and comfortable and I'd rather spend my money on other stuff. But my mum was the kind of person who decorated her house top to bottom every year Confused

FeckinCrutches · 30/08/2016 07:46

Just curious! It's just very unusual to meet someone who doesn't want to go on holiday.

MissDuke · 30/08/2016 07:48

We have priced it up a couple of times but we would rather go elsewhere for longer- for the same price. This year we had 10 days in the Netherlands for the same price as 5 days in DNP and had an amazing time. Luckily for us none of us are particularly into Disney anyway, so it is no loss to us. If the children loved Disney then we would just bite the bullet and do it Smile

I don't think that we could afford Orlando mind you.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/08/2016 07:48

I would rather spend my money on something I enjoy. Don't see the point of spending lots of money on a week or two away - all the day to day shit is still there when you get back! I just don't get it.

FeckinCrutches · 30/08/2016 07:49

What do you do instead?

MissDuke · 30/08/2016 07:49

Feckin just shows how different we all are doesn't it! I couldn't bear to redecorate every year Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/08/2016 07:50

And as I don't have children, I'm not depriving them Smile

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/08/2016 07:51

What do I do as in with my annual leave?

FeckinCrutches · 30/08/2016 07:52

Yes

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/08/2016 07:53

I still have to take some of it but I don't go away - I don't normally take more than a couple of days at a time and I tend not to use it all.

FeckinCrutches · 30/08/2016 07:53

All my family do it MissDuke I'm sure it's a northern thing Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/08/2016 07:57

And presumably people don't use all their annual leave to go on holiday? They do other stuff as well?

FeckinCrutches · 30/08/2016 08:16

Well sometimes my family use annual leave to decorate Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/08/2016 08:17

Ah Grin I rent so I don't decorate either Grin

doubletroublechildren · 30/08/2016 08:21

I use most of my annual leave to visit family. I'm from the south, living in the north so every holiday we go down there. I'd love a separate annual holiday but just couldn't find the time or money to do both. Disney seems an unreachable dream. Confused
