To do school run in jogging gear....

DS starts reception next week. I am finding a new thing to panic about every day. Today's worry is this: my plan is to drop DS off then go straight for a run. This would mean I would be unshowered and in my jogging gear (I do not look Davina McCall cool in my kit. I look like a wobbly, sweaty pile of neon lycra).

Would this be mortifying for a 4yr old? Will other mothers be judging me? Will his teacher? Should I care? I don't think I'm bothered really but I don't want to be the embarrassing parent already.

Light-hearted by the way. Obvs. Although I am a bit genuinely worried!

September is peak 'dropping the kids off in running gear' time at our school because everyone's routines have been disrupted by the holidays. Go for it! I'm going to do it too.

AuntieStella · 29/08/2016 09:48

It started with a thread years ago, where people were talking about how to have the right things in your wardrobe, so that after you've spent an afternoon titting round with toddlers, you can just pull something (ideally lovely, at least functional) out and be ready to go in seconds.

School run bit by accident really, because realising you've only got 5 mins to get there for the older DC being the commonest interruption.

It really means 'what are the best easy wear/easy care dresses in the shops this summer'

HoneyDragon · 29/08/2016 09:53

I either drop off or pick up in gym clothes (yup, pick up all sweaty) depending on my day.

Other times I'm presentable.

I don't get ignored by anyone even people wearing Boden because clothing doesn't make personalities.

Enjoy your return to the gym, I can't bloody wait. The only days I've been able to go over the holidays due to dh's hours is when they've decided to make starts in their refurbs Hmm it's going to hurt when I return.

ChampagneTastes · 29/08/2016 09:55

Phew! Thank you all! Honestly I think in the real world I mostly come across like a proper grown up who can cope with life but this whole starting school thing is filling me with terror of all the different ways I could fuck up my DS.

I shall wear my jogging gear with pride. Grin

I wear running gear with no intention of running afterwards! An excuse to pull on something stretchy, scrape my hair back, look purposeful, then slope of home to shower and dress at my leisure Grin

I work part time and get up ultra early on those days, so the school run days are my lazy days.

MrsJoeyMaynard · 29/08/2016 10:00

Loads of people at DS1s school do this.

The only time I ever saw Shock faces was when one of the dad's turned up at school pick up, still in short shorts and a vest from his jog - in the snow. And the Shock faces were more about the cold than his workout clothes.

Peonie7654 · 29/08/2016 10:02

^^ yes I also pop on gym wear if I can't be arsed.

It looks like you are working out when really it is like wearing joggers and a top..

I did run three miles today tho and have great intentions for September. Lots of Lycra mums at school.

NerrSnerr · 29/08/2016 10:07

Auntie i would just stay in the clothes I was wearing when titting around with toddlers. This is why I don't understand the concept of a school run dress. Too much effort to get changed when already dressed!

NerrSnerr · 29/08/2016 10:07

That's a fib, I understand the concept, I'm just too lazy to do it.

gamerwidow · 29/08/2016 10:08

Loads of mums drop off the kids wearing their gym clothes at dd's school. No one really cares what you wear on the school run as long as you are dressed. The media likes to pretend all the mums are competing with each other at the school gate but that's not my experience at all.

VioletBam · 29/08/2016 10:10

YANBU but why will you be unshowered?

NerrSnerr · 29/08/2016 10:12

Violet I'm guessing the OP will shower after her run. Waste of time, energy and water to shower before going for a run!

formerbabe · 29/08/2016 10:15

I always do the school run in my gym gear...even if I'm not going to the gym that day Grin

Shodan · 29/08/2016 10:16

YANBU but why will you be unshowered?

Because no-one in their right mind would shower before getting sweaty, surely?

Bagina · 29/08/2016 10:19

Yes I'm definitely not showered pre gym. Neither do I have make up on; that is more frightening to me than the clothes!

meditrina · 29/08/2016 10:19

I think the original thread involved paddling pools and a definite wish to do the school run in more than a bikini.

TaterTots · 29/08/2016 10:20

As long as you're not doing it in your pyjamas, that's fine.

PovertyPain · 29/08/2016 10:22

I would be judging all the mums that turn up in gym gear,

As in, I'd be so jealous that you have kids and STILL have the stamina to exercise. Looks at packed of ginger biscuits (breakfast) and fat wee belly spilling over jeans BlushSad

PovertyPain · 29/08/2016 10:23

*Packet. Curses spellcheck. AngryGrin

NerrSnerr · 29/08/2016 10:23

Ah ok. I wouldn't do the school run in a bikini- no one deserves to be subjected to that when picking up children from school.

MoreCoffeeNow · 29/08/2016 10:25

YWBU to wear neon jogging gear.

GrumpyMcGrumpFace · 29/08/2016 10:25

Yabu to go in jogging gear. It's running gear WinkMy hair always looks mad in the morning pre shower, so I put a hat/buff on. That is my small effort to looking half civilised.

It's funnier picking up at the end of a run, especially if it's raining. You're full of endorphins, so no matter if it's raining, hailing, snowing you're grinning like a loon while everyone else looks tired and pissed off. Now THAT is more likely to get you named "crazy running mum" at the school gates. IME Blush

Pickitup · 29/08/2016 10:31

Ime, the only ones that pass comments are the other bitchy parents who dont exercise. That is my honest and truthful experience.
I care not what they say / think. My dc know I run and exercise and it's very important to me that they see both me and dh participating in our chosen sports.

Doggity · 29/08/2016 10:34

anotherday I don't know if I should kiss you or curse you. That video was hilarious but now I've got the song stuck in my head!

OP, wear what you like. Well, try to stick to non-PJs. Kids really don't notice. I doubt mine would even notice if I wasn't there at all to be honest. I'm just the driver.

intheBondiBubble · 29/08/2016 10:38

Of course not by you must wear full make up, hair must be blow dried and you should be mindful to refer to it as 'Active Wear' Grin
