To be thoroughly bewildered by the success of Chris De Burgh?

Just watching him being interviewed by Aled on Weekend and now performing live.

I have always found him to be thoroughly unattractive in a slimy creepy kind of way, he has zero charisma, his voice is weak and warbly and really not pleasant to listen to and his song writing is beyond dull.

Yet he's unbelievably rich and successful and on his 21st album.

Confused

Who buys his stuff? Shock who goes to his concerts? Someone must! I just don't get it. It's making me irrationally irritated to think that there are people out there who actually like him and love his work. It's just not right. IANBU. You know it.

I couldn't give two hoots who he shagged. I personally wouldn't want to shag him though.

electricflyzapper · 28/08/2016 17:10

His reply to the critic was quite amusing. Especially as the review didn't seem that harsh really.

HedgehogHedgehog · 28/08/2016 17:12

I love all his 'appearances' in the Mighty Boosh also!

SpookyPotato · 28/08/2016 17:14

I grew up listening to him because my mum loved him! I love his songs.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 28/08/2016 17:20

I was expecting to have a good titter reading that Independent interview.

But actually, I think the journalist was one nasty, sneery, condscending bitch and it didn't half show in her article.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/08/2016 17:42

It's Daniel o'donnel I don't get. He's awful. But Middle Aged women go mad for him and stalk him round the country's going to every single concert.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/08/2016 17:47

He seemed very nice on Strictly.

user1471552005 · 28/08/2016 17:50

I saw him in concert in 1976. Great performance.

VanillaSugar · 28/08/2016 17:51

Andre Rieu.

My MIL is not the most cultured person in the world. If you asked her what a libretto was, she say it was an icecream. But she loves Andre. She goes on coach tours to see Andre. What's the appeal???

BettyCrystal · 28/08/2016 18:32

My mother is a Rieu fiend too! Loves him...

BettyCrystal · 28/08/2016 18:33

She thinks he's "sophisticated"

yougottheshining · 28/08/2016 18:40

Rieu is clearly a toucher. As for de Burger face, he says that when Jesus comes back down to earth he will say "la la la la la la la la la la". Oh really? Like in the Bible, then?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/08/2016 18:43

André Rieu - the smuggest violinist in the world west.

Runny · 28/08/2016 18:51

My dad loves Andre Rieu as well.

As for CdB, I was once in Ireland and lying in bed one night he appeared on a chat show prattling about how Ireland was seen internationally. Literally this interview was like half an hour long and that's all he talked about...

Roussette · 28/08/2016 18:54

Toddler DoD is a really lovely bloke, have spent time with him, now I'm sounding a bit sad as I've said that already on here Grin don't like his music though

Do not get the Andrew Reiu thingy one little bit! It's just waltzes and women playing instruments in flouncy dresses isn't it?!

KatieScarlett · 28/08/2016 18:55

De Burgh is a feathery stroker

roob314 · 28/08/2016 19:02

Wow, that article about CdB

Aravon shut in the end so he didn't have enough philanthropy in his heart.

I want to read Peter Crawley's review now.

Dowser · 28/08/2016 19:03

Can't stand the monkey faced little decker.

He was shagging the nanny around the same time as my ex was shagging anything with a pulse so cdb really got the evils from me

There is a new kid on the block in Ireland to take over the reins from Chris and Wee Daniel. His name is Nathan Carter, he sings country and western and he is completely non-threatening and a big hit with the tweens. Look up 'rock me mamma like a wagon wheel'.

We had this played at our wedding in Tenerife by Peter the singer from the dub liner who just looks a lot more rock and roll than this guy.

Just asked dh if he remember d it..yes ...but doesn't know from where!

Doh!

Dowser · 28/08/2016 19:03

Fecker ffs

roob314 · 28/08/2016 19:04

CdB attempting to put a reviewer back in his place

how foolish!! the paper must have been so delighted!!

roob314 · 28/08/2016 19:04

and CdB thinks the paper would have been cross with the reviewer and told him to 'sharpen up'

wow, he sure is narcissistic.

Dowser · 28/08/2016 19:06

So you've forgiven him for shagging the nanny, then.
Fair Play.

No! Never!

roob314 · 28/08/2016 19:08

lol Katie

and he was a hard dog to keep on the porch

LuluJakey1 · 28/08/2016 19:10

I agree - CDB is crap. Not interested in the others either apart from Springsteen who is incredibly talented. I am not so into the stomping rock stuff he does, it's the subtle songs that are absolutely amazing. You have miscategorised Bruce in amongst that lot.

CDB makes my flesh creep. I loathe The Lady in Red. Can't think of anything else he is famous for. Wasn't it about 30 years ago as well. I was just at primary school I'm sure.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/08/2016 20:01

I took my mum to see Andre Reiu in Birmingham about 4 years ago. We went on an overnight coach trip, stayed in a little hotel, saw the show and went shopping the next day. The coach was packed. I was the youngest by about 25 years (and I was 46 at the time). However, it was brilliant, great tunes, he can really work an audience and I loved it, it was pleasantly entertaining and the staging of it was just lovely.

Gawd, I feel dead old now, the previous time I went to the NEC was to see Duran Duran.
