To be thoroughly bewildered by the success of Chris De Burgh?

Just watching him being interviewed by Aled on Weekend and now performing live.

I have always found him to be thoroughly unattractive in a slimy creepy kind of way, he has zero charisma, his voice is weak and warbly and really not pleasant to listen to and his song writing is beyond dull.

Yet he's unbelievably rich and successful and on his 21st album.

Confused

Who buys his stuff? Shock who goes to his concerts? Someone must! I just don't get it. It's making me irrationally irritated to think that there are people out there who actually like him and love his work. It's just not right. IANBU. You know it.

Bold fail

LittleLionMansMummy · 29/08/2016 19:24

Patricia the Stripper is a great song. I can forgive him everything else for this one song alone.

MaQueen · 29/08/2016 19:28

Well, you have sold your soul, of course...

MaQueen · 29/08/2016 19:30

I think I'm safe in betting that the 15, 16 year olds playing CdeB on their guitars belonged to the Christian Union and sported mohair jumpers, yes?

KatieScarlett · 29/08/2016 19:34

Darwin
I was cool, that cornet solo of mine "The theme tune from Dallas" in 1985 was what cemented my place as top girl in the school brass band.
Chris de Burgh on guitar, what were you thinking?

MaQueen · 29/08/2016 19:41

Was it a marching brass band KS? Did you wear strangely, kick flared trousers and a tunic with epulettes [smirks]

KatieScarlett · 29/08/2016 19:42

No marching!
That was for dweebs.
I did have a fetching bow tie though.
Oh yes.

MaQueen · 29/08/2016 19:44

And matching cumberband, pray tell?

Roussette · 29/08/2016 19:47

Katie how very could you! Awful thing is I remember that song !

KatieScarlett · 29/08/2016 19:52

No, only the conductor wore The Cummerband.
White shirt, bow tie, black blazer (school badge compulsory), black skirt, black shoes.
Or in my case, white shirt rolled up with buttons undone, bow tie at a jaunty angle, black short pencil skirt a la skirt n slack centre, Toyah makeup, over the knee socks and decent black shoes (freeman hardy Willis, my mum was particular about school footwear).
Britney totes stole my look.

I love Chris de Burgh!! His lyrics are so emotive...In a Country Churchyard, Ev'ry Drop of Rain, Borderline, Lonely Skies, Crusader.....It is so sad that most people know him for the awful dirge Lady in Red instead of some of his fantastic songs that are so memorable and lovely!!!

KatieScarlett · 29/08/2016 19:53

Oh dear God

NotaNice314 · 29/08/2016 19:59

I don't care if every other song is brilliant, which I doubt I still loath him.

Somebody go with her, see her home and make sure she doesn't try to pay the driver with kisses

MaQueen · 29/08/2016 20:02

I dreamed of wearing shoes from Freeman Hardy & Willis.

All my shoes were Start Rites, until I was 14. And, yes, I consider that child abuse.

ElmaFudd1 · 29/08/2016 20:02

Fair play to his daughter, she has a sense of humour - check out the picture here: www.joe.ie/news/tweet-of-the-day-rosanna-davison-tweets-the-most-disturbing-image-of-herself-youll-ever-see/39501

The possible deeper hidden meanings of Daddy's Home sung by Cliff don't bear thinking about.

In fact they make me feel a bit queasy.

Am I wrong in thinking I might actually need to give CdB a fair crack of the whip and actually listen to something?

Fans, give me your top 3 and I promise to listen on Spotify and report back.

Now you've opened Pandora's Box Leave

[assumes brace position]

KatieScarlett · 29/08/2016 20:09

Fuck no, why would I do THAT?
I'd be getting shite "recommended for you" till the end of time. I'll probably end up on some mailing list and have to see his gurning pus every time I open an e-mail. They might send me (shudders) calendars
Why would you do that? Why?

NotaNice314 · 29/08/2016 20:10

Leavemywings, his Wife Diane.

Not a great beauty but CdB still punching massively above his weight.

To be thoroughly bewildered by the success of Chris De Burgh?
LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 29/08/2016 20:13

Oh come on, who doesn't want a CdB calender?

Just imagine it.....
