Franked instead of stamped?

Would you be offended if you got a birthday card and the envelope was franked instead of stamped?

It has never crossed my mind until a friend mentioned that she received a birthday card that was franked from an office franking machine. She thought it's a bit cheap and unthoughtful.

Sure the card and message inside is what matters rather than the envelope? Your thoughts?

Yanbu but she is. I'm sure the sender took the trouble to go and choose a card. I wouldn't be offended. I probably wouldn't even notice.

I wouldn't think anything of it except how nice it was to receive a card. A friend of mine does all hers through the office franker but pays the money into petty cash.

How odd. In an office I used to work also let us use the franking machine if we paid into petty cash.

We frank mail but have to pay for it.

Some people are very weird. Always looking for a slight where there is none.

Apparently some people think it's also lazy if a gift is presented in a gift bag rather than wrapping paper.

As I said, weird.

LOL squoosh, this gift etiquette is beyond me. I've heard mention that wrapping paper, rather than a bag plus tissue is "cheap". I dread to think what they say about me. I take the labels off the bags and recycle them.

I often stick stuff through the office franking machine - I still pay for the postage.

If anyone complained, they wouldn't be getting any more cards from me.

Is it a Moonpig card? How do they arrive? Even if it wasn't I bet she doesn't like those because the sender doesn't personally handwrite a loving message in the card.

She obviously has far too much time on her hands to be able to worry about trivialities like this and doesn't appreciate that not every has time to go out and find a stamp when they could just use the office franking machine instead.

If it was from moon pig or such it would only be franked if sent straight to the recipient (rather than customer) which I'm sure she would be objecting even more as the message would be printed rather than hand written. Franked and printed! How very rude to wish me well in such a way! 😂

I frank my Christmas cards - I pay for the franking costs in work anyway so I don't see the difference. If is different though if someone is using their employer's franking machine without permission.

I use PPI (business mail thingy similar to franking) and it's cheaper than over the counter or franking, so I use it for everything. I probably wouldn't have used it for wedding invitations but for anything else I don't care.

Unless the recipient was a stamp collector then anyone who complains is likely to be saved the pearl-clutching stress next year by not getting a card or gift from me.
I was once sent a printed and franked sympathy card. I was offended by that, since it was from my sister, who should have known better. However, just a franking mark would not offend me normally (and the message printed inside was exeptionally smug and patronising).

I guess technically she is right in saying is cheap, as franking mail is cheaper than a stamp, but it's not thoughtless. Its not something I'd think twice about.

I often put cards through my office franking machine and put the money into petty cash. I often don't have stamps on me and I find that franked post gets to the destination quicker ime.

If that's the only thing your friend has to moan about in life she's doing well.

OP, your friend is one of those "must be seen to be spending money at all times" types, which makes them look preoccupied with money (rather than effortlessly cashed-up, which is clearly the effect she is after)
