Who gets to have the milk?

The fucking kids have managed to go through eight pints today.

Dh has just got home and had a bowl of cereal and then realised that was almost the last of it.

He said, oh well, there's enough for my tea and cereal in the morning.

I said what about my coffee. Can't you have toast instead?

He says he doesn't like toast for breakfast, only lunch. And I'll have to have black coffee (it's instant, so bleurgh).

I can't function without coffee. I especially can't function and then walk an hour's round trip to the shop without coffee. I usually have at least three before 9am so even leaving me enough for one is a sacrifice.

I think he should forgo his breakfast cereal and have one of the many other breakfast options in the house (toast, brioche, eggs, whatever).

He won't budge. I'm now sulking. AIBU or is he?

It's because I got Nesquik earlier. They've gone mad for it.

I'd hide some for my coffee in the morning and as a back up, set my phone alarm early so make sure I was up first!

The amount of milk required for one coffee will not be missed from his cereal.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/08/2016 22:48

Bin the nesquik and tell them your not going to get any more til they stop being ridiculous

PrettyBotanicals · 24/08/2016 22:48

How many kids drank 8 pints???

That's your issue. How old are they and why aren't they drinking water instead?

QuackDuckQuack · 24/08/2016 22:50

Do you lug 8 pints back at a time? How many kids do you have? Can you get a milkman? Could you keep UHT for emergencies? Obviously none of this answers you actual question.

'I only like toast at lunchtime' is him being a complete dick. You either like toast or you don't. Obviously you should get milk in your coffee.

LumpyMcBentface · 24/08/2016 22:50

Three of ours plus four extras to play, they all had milkshakes. Plus ds1 had cereal for lunch, and ds2 drinks loads on a normal day. Dh will have had two bowls of cereal this morning and then his one just now.

We do usually get through four pints a day.

I still think you should top up the milk with water but the more reasonable solution would be for you both to have some milk for one hot drink each and then one of you goes to the shop to get more. You could either flip a coin for who that is or whoever goes gets their breakfast/coffee made for them.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/08/2016 22:51

Your dd needs to stop being ridiculous cereal then too. Make himself am omelette.

5 pints a day is just daft

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/08/2016 22:51

Dh

BrollySmolly · 24/08/2016 22:51

You must absolutely put some milk aside for yourself in the morning. Top it up with water if you have to!

LumpyMcBentface · 24/08/2016 22:52

Dh leaves for work at an ungodly hour (6.30am).

I'll still be snoring. So there's every chance he'll win this.

I suspect he will actually leave me enough for one. He is generally quite well trained. I think he's just making a point this evening.

I always win in situations like this. DH can't have cereal and that's that. Hide yourself some milk if he might take it all. Very selfish. Here we would split it for coffee or my DH would forgo his coffee as he's not as addicted as I am.

Pigeonpost · 24/08/2016 22:53

Totally hide some. In something he won't think to look in. His fault for having cereal at night.

LumpyMcBentface · 24/08/2016 22:53

I have decanted some just in case though. Always have a back up.

OP posts:
idontevencare · 24/08/2016 22:54

If you hide some and top up with water he won't have any reason to go looking as he'll think he's won and got all the milk for himself.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/08/2016 22:55

Stick a dead rodent in the cereal box?

WaitrosePigeon · 24/08/2016 22:55

Love this thread! #milkwars

loosechange · 24/08/2016 22:56

It's the night time bowl of cereal that has broken the camel's back though, so to speak.

Hide all the cereal, and leave the bread out in the morning with a ransom note.

Pinkheart5915 · 24/08/2016 22:56

8 pints of milk in a day Shock I dont think I'd buy nesquik again that's so much milk

I would use enough milk for 1 coffee and let dh have the rest. I'd have some more coffee after shopping

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/08/2016 22:56

Oh no, squeeze some lemon juice into it be nice and curdled for him.

myownprivateidaho · 24/08/2016 22:57

Erp well he has less of a leg to stand on since he went out without phone and wallet. But I kind of agree with him that the kids shouldn't have been allowed to drink all the milk (or if they were going to drink it, it should have been replenished). Different if they did it without your knowing...

Wolfiefan · 24/08/2016 22:57

Four pints a day? Bloody hell. How much do they put in cereal? Tell them drinks are water other than a glass once a day.

LumpyMcBentface · 24/08/2016 22:58

They have free rein with food and drink so I didn't know they were having so much. Plus I get them to make me coffees throughout the day so I'd lost track of how much we had. I had no idea they'd gone through quite as much. Sods.

Brokenbiscuit · 24/08/2016 22:59

Can't believe people argue about this kind of trivia. We would share what was left in this situation. If there was only enough left for one drink, either of us would be happy to let the other have it. That's what grown-ups do, isn't it?Confused

How old are your kids, though? If they're old enough to make their own milkshakes/go to the shops unaccompanied, surely they're old enough to know that they shouldn't drink all the milk and leave none left for anyone else?

Gmbk · 24/08/2016 22:59

Four pints a day?! Jeez train your kids to drink water
